The economic crisis has had a major impact on the country, but has been little studied in its socio-territorial dimension. To analyze it in the metropolitan areas of Barcelona and Madrid, we 1) present a time series of the unemployment rates, the evolution of which will be 2) analyzed against the main sociodemographic features of the studied population: age, gender and nationality. 3) These results are further broken down by sector of activity and professional category to account for the occupational characteristics of said population. 4) Next, the obtained time series of unemployment rates are analyzed from a geographical perspective, through the comparison of territorial aggregates such as the cluster of municipalities by size, 2 by comarcas (NUTS4), and by socioeconomic level. Finally, 5) the evolution of said unemployment rates for each period and metropolitan region is studied through multivariate analysis. The obtained results allow for the presentation of a synthesis of the processes that underlie the changes in unemployment rates and their territorial articulation. This analysis shows that the crisis has two distinct phases, with an earlier and more intense incidence in the regional peripheries, in areas most linked to the construction
ABSTRACTDemographic behaviour within metropolitan areas is increasingly spatially segmented, and fertility is a good example of this, as its growing spatial diff erences would depend on the type of metropolitan municipality analysed. The article's main hypothesis is that fertility level diff erences would mainly be explained by selective internal migration flows associated to young couples' life cycle. Alternative hypotheses are that fertility diff erences between municipalities could be explained by the share of foreign women living in them, o by disposable household income diff erences. In order to verify these hypotheses, the article analyses Barcelona Metropolitan Region's intra-metropolitan fertility. A preliminary descriptive analysis -total fertility rates (TFR) for 26 metropolitan subareas have been calculated-is completed by linear regression models for years 2001 and 2009. Results confirm that fertility diff erences are partly explained by young Spanish couples' internal migration flows towards small and medium suburban localities, but also by specific foreign groups, particularly Africans.
Palabras clave: Migración interna; población en edades avanzadas; características sociodemográficas; pautas territoriales.ABSTRACT -residential mobility of old people in spain: a metropolitan perspective. This paper analyses the internal migration of the elderly in the Barcelona and Madrid metropolitan areas. The population with more than 80 years experienced an increase in the intensity of their mobility over the past two decades. This growth is distributed throughout the country and associated with an age related autonomy loss. from a territorial point of view, the main traits of these migrations are: an overrepresentation of exits from the central cities of both metropolises and the concentration of arrivals in some peripheral recebido: Outubro 2014. aceite: Janeiro 2016.
