Analisar, em um Centro de Saúde da Família, em Fortaleza-CE, Brasil, as concepções e práticas dos profissionais de saúde acerca da temática da promoção da saúde, propiciando um espaço de reflexão que contribua com o aprimoramento das práticas. Métodos: Desenvolveu-se a metodologia da pesquisa-ação, e os círculos de cultura foram trabalhados como caminho coletivo de problematização e interação no processo de investigação. A pesquisa foi realizada no mês de fevereiro de 2011, durante três encontros que aconteceram no espaço da roda de cogestão, momento em que todos os profissionais estão reunidos. Os encontros foram divididos da seguinte maneira: 1º encontro, apresentação da proposta de trabalho e levantamento do universo vocabular e dos temas geradores; 2º encontro, problematização, fundamentação e reflexão teórico-prática; 3º encontro, elaboração das estratégias de superação das situações-limite, construção de sínteses e avaliação. Resultados: Constatou-se certa indiferenciação conceitual pelos profissionais entre o que significam ações de promoção da saúde e prevenção de doenças. Contudo, a utilização da metodologia problematizadora possibilitou aos participantes a discussão dessa temática, identificando as potencialidades e os desafios de transformação dessas práticas para a construção de um novo olhar sobre a promoção da saúde no contexto do Sistema Único de Saúde. Conclusão: A maioria dos profissionais de saúde identifica a promoção da saúde com a prevenção de doenças. Podemos apontar como um dos aspectos determinantes dessa relação a formação destes profissionais, cuja base foi o modelo biomédico, focalizando suas práticas na doença e direcionando-as para a tentativa de mudanças de comportamento e estilo de vida dos indivíduos.
