Come osserva Adams (1976a, p. VII): «A definitive description of the varieties of late and Vulgär Latin, made from a Latin rather than a Romance point of view, has still to be written. [...] Word order has scarcely been mentioned in works on Vulgär Latin». E infatti appena il caso di rilevare ehe «writing differs from speech, and hence that a and Vulgär Latin are not one and the same thing» (Adams 1976a, p. VIII). Adams (1976b, p. 172) infatti afferma: «one of the most important determinants of Inversion in late latin was the voice of the verb».
