Screening for variants in TPMT did not reduce the proportions of patients with hematologic ADRs during thiopurine treatment for IBD. However, there was a 10-fold reduction in hematologic ADRs among variant carriers who were identified and received a dose reduction, compared with variant carriers who did not, without differences in treatment efficacy. ClinicalTrials.gov number: NCT00521950.
A novel photonic monolithic integrated device consisting of a distributed feedback laser, a passive resonator, and active elements that control the optical feedback properties has been designed, fabricated, and evaluated as a compact potential chaotic emitter in optical communications. Under diverse operating parameters, the device behaves in different modes providing stable solutions, periodic states, and broadband chaotic dynamics. Chaos data analysis is performed in order to quantify the complexity and chaoticity of the experimental reconstructed attractors by applying nonlinear noise filtering.
The newly available techniques for sensitive proteome analysis and the resulting amount of data require a new bioinformatics focus on automatic methods for spectrum reprocessing and peptide/protein validation. Manual validation of results in such studies is not feasible and objective enough for quality relevant interpretation. The necessity for tools enabling an automatic quality control is, therefore, important to produce reliable and comparable data in such big consortia as the Human Proteome Organization Brain Proteome Project. Standards and well-defined processing pipelines are important for these consortia. We show a way for choosing the right database model, through collecting data, processing these with a decoy database and end up with a quality controlled protein list merged from several search engines, including a known false-positive rate.
A key device in all-optical networks is the optical filter. A ring resonator filter with an integrated semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) on the basis of GaInAsP-InP has been investigated and fabricated. A required passband shape of loss-compensated ring resonator filters can be custom-designed by the use of multiple coupled resonators. Results of single-, double-, and triple-ring resonators with integrated SOAs with free spectral ranges of 12.5, 25, and 50 GHz, respectively, are presented. A box-like filter response is obtained by the double- and triple-ring resonators using specific coupling coefficient
The filter response of single-ring resonators with integrated semiconductor optical amplifiers based on GaInAsP-InP is presented. The devices with free spectral ranges of 25 and 50 GHz have the form of a racetrack. An on-off ratio of 20 dB, a full-width at half-maximum of 12 and 24 pm, a finesse of 17, and a Q factor of 130,000 and 65,000, respectively, have been achieved. The tuning to a specific wavelength is performed by using integrated Pt-resistors
The characteristic response of single and double GaInAsP-InP ring resonators in the form of race tracks with a radius of 100 and 200 mu m are presented. The used multimode interference (MMI) coupler is as short as 150 mu m. A contrast of 13 dB, a finesse of six, and free spectral ranges of 50 and 100 GHz have been achieved for the single ring resonator. The double ring resonator has a full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of 0.25 nm for the throughput port and 0.4 nm for the drop port
Security in information exchange plays a central role in the deployment of modern communication systems. Besides algorithms, chaos is exploited as a real-time high-speed data encryption technique which enhances the security at the hardware level of optical networks. In this work, compact, fully controllable and stably operating monolithic photonic integrated circuits (PICs) that generate broadband chaotic optical signals are incorporated in chaos-encoded optical transmission systems. Data sequences with rates up to 2.5 Gb/s with small amplitudes are completely encrypted within these chaotic carriers. Only authorized counterparts, supplied with identical chaos generating PICs that are able to synchronize and reproduce the same carriers, can benefit from data exchange with bit-rates up to 2.5Gb/s with error rates below 10(-12). Eavesdroppers with access to the communication link experience a 0.5 probability to detect correctly each bit by direct signal detection, while eavesdroppers supplied with even slightly unmatched hardware receivers are restricted to data extraction error rates well above 10(-3).
Background and Purpose: Refractory status epilepticus is a clinical emergency associated with high mortality and morbidity. Increasing evidence suggests neuroinflammation contributes to the development of drug-refractoriness during status epilepticus. Here, we have determined the contribution of the ATP-gated P2X7 receptor, previously linked to inflammation and increased hyperexcitability, to drugrefractory status epilepticus and its therapeutic potential.Experimental Approach: Status epilepticus was induced via a unilateral microinjection of kainic acid into the amygdala in adult mice. Severity of status epilepticus was compared in animals with overexpressing or knock-out of the P2X7 receptor, after inflammatory priming by pre-injection of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and in mice treated with P2X7 receptor-targeting and anti-inflammatory drugs.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
