The results indicate that polyurethane is readily encrusted and colonized by bacteria in vivo despite antibiotic prophylaxis. Newer materials must be sought if effective long-term stenting is to be achieved.
[Fe(TCNE)(NCMe)2][FeCl4] is isolated from the reaction of TCNE and FeCl2(NCMe)2 and orders as a ferrimagnet below 90 K and is the initial member of a new class of magnets. It is the first metal-TCNE magnet with direct bonding between metal ion and [TCNE]*- whose structure has been determined, and it possesses a novel planar mu4-[TCNE]*- spin coupling unit bonded to four FeII's, with an axial pair of MeCNs. The [FeIIICl4]- anion occupies sites between the [FeII(TCNE*-)(NCMe)2]+ layers. [Fe(TCNE)(NCMe)2][FeCl4] has a coercive field of 1730 Oe and a remnant magnetization of 7500 emuK/mol at 50 K.
Since the report of the first organic-based magnet [Fe(C 5 [6c] Albeit important, the structures of [M(TCNE) 2 ]·z CH 2 Cl 2 (M = V, Mn, Fe) have been elusive because of the unavailability of single crystals. Herein, we report the structure of [Fe(TCNE) 2 ]·z CH 2 Cl 2 determined from synchrotron powder diffraction data and the implications it provides with respect to the structure of the [V(TCNE) x ] room temperature magnet.Although single crystals of the brown compounds [M(TCNE) 2 ]·z CH 2 Cl 2 (M = Mn, Fe) did not form, X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) was observed and indicated that they are isomorphous.[6c] Thus, a high-resolution XRPD pattern for M = Fe was collected at the National Synchrotron Light Source at ambient temperature (Figure 1).
