The article is the product of the study “Development of innovative resources to improve logical-mathematical skills in primary school, through educational robotics”, developed during the 2019 school year in three public schools in the province of Chiriquí, Republic of Panama. The teaching-learning process in students is influenced by aspects inside and outside the classroom, since not all schools have the necessary resources to deliver content or teaching material. The general objective of the project is to design, develop and implement educational robotics to improve logical-mathematical skills aimed at preschool and first grade students in public schools, using programmable educational robots. For this, a set of resources and activities were developed to improve the logical-mathematical skills of the initial stages, in public schools, obtaining significant results. Playful activities favor the teaching-learning process. Considering the analysis of the results made on the data obtained through the applied collection instruments, it can be argued that in general terms the values indicate that the students obtained a favorable level of performance in the different challenges proposed. The project has allowed the academic community to have an application of great value that allows teaching about the conservation of natural sites. The project only covers the area of mathematics in preschool and first grade.
In this article, we present a platform that allows for the integration of different applications for the follow-up of patients with chronic diseases. We developed two elements: a mobile and a web application. The mobile application allows the capture and processing of vital signs for patients with high blood pressure (hypertension). This application allows for the patient to store the data obtained, provides historical information and trends of the stored measures, and provides alerts and recommendations according to ranges of measures that were obtained. The web application allows the doctor and patients to obtain updated information of the disease behavior through the measures obtained. We used different biometric devices including an efimomanometer, glucometer, scale, and a thermometer with a wi-fi connection. Through this web application, we also generated information about average measures at a given time, by age, by region, and by a specific date. The developed system was evaluated in a medical center with different types of patients.
The rapid spread of SARS-CoV-2 and the consequent global COVID-19 pandemic has prompted the public administrations of different countries to establish health procedures and protocols based on information generated through predictive techniques and models, which, in turn, are based on technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). This article presents some AI tools and computational models used to collaborate in the control and detection of COVID-19 cases. In addition, the main features of the Epidempredict project regarding COVID-19 in Panama are presented. This initiative consists of the planning and design of a digital platform, with cloud-based technology, to manage the ingestion, analysis, visualization and exportation of data regarding the evolution of COVID-19 in Panama. The methodology for the design of predictive algorithms is based on a hybrid model that combines the dynamics associated with population data of an SIR model of differential equations and extrapolation with recurrent neural networks. The technological solution developed suggests that adjustments can be made to the rules implemented in the expert processes that are considered. Furthermore, the resulting information is displayed and explored through user-friendly dashboards, contributing to more meaningful decision-making processes.
The existing technologies, systems, or models in the hospital system, in certain aspects have, in terms of integrity, difficulties in carrying out an adequate, systematic, and automated record of patient data. To this end, the electronic health records (EHR) have been designed to provide updated information to the entire health system. This document is one of the most important that exists within the hospital system throughout the country, and its main objective is the care, treatment, and monitoring of peoples’ health in a simple and conceptualized way. This article proposes the design of a flexible electronic health record system (FLEXEHR), integrating generic systems and totally flexible, based on web services so that different hospital information systems can be interconnected, thus creating a patient data gateway in an orderly and structured way, considering its availability, confidentiality, and integrity. In Panama, existing health systems have the disadvantage that they are not interoperable, which generates duplication of EHR according to the type of health entity visited.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
