Amongst the endocrine glands, thyroid gland is well known for its developmental anomalies, which range from common to rare ones. The presence of levator glandulae thyroideae and its anatomical variations gain importance in the pathologies which are related to thyroid gland and their treatment modalities. Levator glandulae thyroideae is a fibromuscular band. If it is present, it is usually seen on the left side, to connect the pyramidal lobe of thyroid gland and the hyoid bone. But levator glandulae thyroideae which stretches from isthmus to the body of hyoid bone is rare and only very few cases have been reported in the medical literature. During a routine dissection of the thyroid gland in a 55 years old male cadaver, a Levator Glandulae Thyroideae (which was fibromusculoglandular in nature) was seen, with the absence of pyramidal lobe on the left side. It directly came from upper border of isthmus and went upto hyoid bone. It also had innervation from branches of external laryngeal nerve. This was also associated with absence of superior thyroid artery on the same side. The knowledge on various developmental anomalies of the gland and variations in neurovascular relations will help the surgeons in plan thyroid surgeries in a better and safe way.
Variations of nerve are of anatomical, embryological and clinical importance. There adequate knowledge will help in increasing surgical precision and decreasing morbidity. In present study, the variation in the origin and number of medial calcaneal nerve (MCN) was studied. The material for present study comprised of 60 lower extremities belonging to 30 adult human cadavers obtained from department of Anatomy, GMC Amritsar. In the present study, number of MCN is highly variable. 1 MCN innervated 35%, 2 MCN innervated 40%, 3 MCN innervated 15%, 4 MCN innervated 8.3%, 5 MCN innervated 1.67%. There were total 121 medial calcaneal nerves found in the present study. MCN originated from tibial nerve in 57 instances (47.10%), from bifurcation of tibial nerve in 30 (24.79%), from lateral plantar nerve in 32 (26.44%) and from medial plantar nerve in 2 instances (1.65%). Description of variation of origin of medial calcaneal nerve in medial aspect of calcaneus is required to establish an anatomical guide for diagnosis and therapy of some tarsal region diseases including tarsal tunnel syndrome, fixation of fracture with external nailing, medial displacement osteotomy and nerve block in podiatric medicine.
For decades, scholars have debated which mode of education is superior amongst online versus traditional teaching. Some argue in favour of traditional or face to face teaching and others consider online teaching better. Still others suggested hybrid or blended mode of teaching as the most effective and productive method. This shift in strategy for medical education delivery has been driven by external forces beyond the influence of the institutions as well as by their internal dynamic. However, students’ perception towards online teaching as compared to traditional teaching has largely been overlooked. Aims and Objectives: This study or survey in covid pandemic intends to fill this void in the literature, and explore medical students’ perception and obtain their feedback towards online learning or teaching versus traditional teaching (face to face) mode of education in the medical field. Material and Method: Present survey included 1100 medical students from different medical colleges situated under different universities in North India. Survey was developed, which included a total of 14 questions (5 were demographical). After obtaining their responses, statistical analysis of responses was done. Conclusion: The results of present study concluded that medical students preferred traditional teaching over online mode of teaching.
Background: The median artery is a transitory vessel that represents the arterial axis of the forearm during early embryonic life. When present, it appears mainly as two types: antebrachial and palmar. Context and purpose of the study: In the present study the objective was to investigate the occurrence and fate of palmar type of median artery. The study was conducted on 40 cadaveric upper extremities dissected in the
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
