This article attempted to investigate the significance of the Islamic and Asian Civilization Course (TITAS) according to the point of view of non-Muslim students to form a harmonious view towards Islam besides forming and cultivating racial unity in Malaysia. This study was also conducted with expectations that TITAS will be the impetus to create moral awareness amongst non-Muslim students towards Islam and Muslims other than giving ideas that multiracial is assimilable through TITAS. This matter was aligned with the objective of the Islamic Civilization study for non-Muslim students and the goals of TITAS introduced in 1983. This study was conducted using a quantitative approach involving 203 non-Muslim students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris as the study sample. The mean was 3.81 which depicts a high-level achievement of the goals and objectives of TITAS. This showed that TITAS was able and managed to predispose moral awareness amongst non-Muslim students towards Islam and Muslims. It is also proposed that TITAS continues to be maintained as the mainstream syllabus beyond the pre-university level.
Myth is a very dominant element in traditional Malay literature. The myths are not set forth in an unorganized manner or randomly, but instead are based on the belief patterns that are already in existence, and this reflects the connection of the society’s thinking with elements of animism that serve as the background of their lives before the arrival of other beliefs. Examples of the development of myth stories can be observed in hikayat (literary works) in traditional Malay literature like Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa and Sejarah Melayu. Meanwhile, examples of oral stories are those found in Cerita Rakyat Malaysia (2008). The aim of this article is to identify the functions of myths found in traditional Malay literature. This article will use the Sociology of Literature approach by Plummer, Ken (1997). The approach of this paper draws on to the questions of how myths became the belief of the society and what is the function of myths in traditional Malay literature texts. The functions of myths can be seen based on these questions. Elements of myths in historical works are narrations that are believed by the locals as actual occurrences that have happened in their locality in the past. Hence, the myth stories became the basis and answers to the inquisitiveness of the people of the past time. The other purpose is to uphold the royal dignity. In traditional literature, literature is viewed as the mirror of society and their documents. The role of myth stories is not only to explain their functions in the society but also to reveal the creativity of the writer or orator and the storyteller. But here, the presence of mythical elements explains to us the relationship of the work from the aspect of thoughts and the world view of that society in the past.
<span lang="EN-US">This project was conducted to investigate whether the use of pictures able to improve pupils’ vocabulary retention. There were 36 pupils from an urban school located in Malaysia who are in year 4 involved as participants. The pupils were of average proficiency level of the English Language. A pre-test and post-test were conducted in order to identify the effectiveness of the intervention. An interview was carried out with 10 pupils in the post intervention for triangulation purpose. The scores from the pre-test and post-test were compared to measure the effectiveness of the intervention. Whereas, the analysis of the interview was procured on pupils’ perception towards the intervention. The findings indicate that pupils are able to remember the vocabularies taught for a longer period of time when the words are associated with pictures. Findings also indicate the use of the pictures in improving their vocabulary retention.</span>
This action research was conducted to help five Form Two Students improve their math achievement especially in Factoring and Algebraic Development. The study sample consisted of five students who got low results in the pre-test. The selection of research respondents was carried out by purposive sampling involving five students in a secondary school. This action research also gives researchers the opportunity to improve teaching and learning practices using the Photomath application. Data for this study was collected through observation, pre-test, post-test and questionnaire. The collected data was then analyzed in terms of frequency and percentage. The results of the Post Test for the five respondents, show an increase in math achievement and more interest in math subjects when they can refer to this Photomath application based on the calculations they have done. The use of this application can be widely used as a tool to help students when they are at home and do not have a reference to refer to. The implications of this study show an increase in the respondents’ achievement and interest in algebra.
This study aims to (1) produce a video of length measurement material through Adobe After Effects software. (2) determine the validity and feasibility of the developed video. (3) Knowing the student's response to the video length measurement material. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method, which is modified from the 4D model, data collection techniques by observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The data analysis technique is done by converting qualitative data into quantitative data. The quality of the video development of length measurement material based on the assessment of mathematicians scored 5.0 with a good predicate, learning media experts got a score of 4.7 with a good predicate, and linguists got a score of 4.75 with an appropriate predicate. The teacher's assessment obtained a score of 5.0 with a felicitous predicate. The results of the limited video trial obtained a percentage of 100%, meaning that the average student gave a positive response to the material developed in the video.
