El objetivo del trabajo es analizar cómo recolectores de pulpo (pulperos) construyeron lugar, y dieron sentido de lugar a un camino de terracería en un tramo paralelo y lindero a la costa atlántica patagónica de 1950 a 1970. Se utilizó una metodología cualitativa y participativa, basada en estas técnicas etnográficas: entrevistas, entrevistas en profundidad, recorridos de campo y referenciación geográfica de los parajes reconocidos por los pulperos. Como resultado, los informantes identificaron parajes donde se establecían los pulperos, que se cartografiaron, y se les asignó topónimos reconocidos por ellos. La limitante es que no se profundizó en las trasformaciones del camino, aunque la originalidad radica en el uso de los conceptos paraje (lugar), sentido de lugar y paisaje en la reconstrucción del camino, a partir de una actividad productiva artesanal. En conclusión, los afectos que residen en la memoria de los pulperos resultaron centrales en la construcción social del camino y los parajes como lugar, en el sentido geográfico.
MATÍAS RODRIGO CHÁVEZ a RESUMEN Este trabajo analiza la inserción territorial de los inmigrantes árabes en el sudeste del Territorio Nacional de Río Negro durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX, utilizando como fuente principal las inspecciones realizadas por la Dirección General de Tierras. Se busca reconstruir las tensiones y los conflictos entre los inspectores de tierras y los ocupantes sirio-libaneses, demostrando que estos últimos escaparon a los sistemas de clasificación binarios que dividían a los pobladores en europeos e indígenas. Se argumenta que los inmigrantes árabes desplegaron estrategias territoriales condicionadas por sus intereses comerciales, generando ocupaciones caracterizadas por su alta movilidad e inestabilidad y cuyo principal objetivo era consolidar nodos mercantiles a partir de los cuales tender redes de negocios.
Este artículo estudia la trayectoria de un inmigrante libanés durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX en el paraje El Maitén, analizando sus estrategias socio-políticas para la construcción de una territorialidad inicialmente comercial y luego también ganadera. Se centra en la descripción de sus disputas territoriales, siguiendo los expedientes producidos por diferentes agencias estatales que tuvieron intervención en los sucesivos conflictos. Este estudio de caso problematiza su ciclo de acumulación y diversificación, buscando propiciar el debate sobre los procesos de construcción territorial de los bolicheros sirio-libaneses en la Patagonia central.
En este artículo discutimos las prácticas y representaciones culturales de los pueblos indígenas de Patagonia continental e insular (Tierra del Fuego) en relación con los piojos, confrontando registros históricos y etnográficos de los siglos dieciocho al veinte. El consumo de piojos de la cabeza fue una práctica habitual y cotidiana entre los grupos indígenas del sur de Sudamérica, quienes los consideraban un verdadero manjar. Hombres, mujeres, niñas y niños participaban de esta actividad colectiva que a la vez era atravesada por la afectividad, consumiendo lo que ellos mismos conseguían en las pesquisas. El cambio continuo de campamento, el despiojado, el tipo de vestimenta, el uso de pinturas repelentes, aceite de foca y peines eran sus métodos de control de las pediculosis. Se argumenta que el proceso de expansión colonial de los estados republicanos de Argentina y Chile, a fines del siglo diecinueve, habría forzado la modificación de estas prácticas culturales. Las fuentes históricas y etnográficas reflejan, además, las tensiones y contradicciones entre las percepciones y connotaciones negativas de los foráneos y la significancia que tenían los piojos de la cabeza para las poblaciones indígenas.
