<p>Este artículo analiza las consecuencias reales del consenso de Washington para el capitalismo dependiente latinoamericano, a partir de la década de los noventa, con el fin de dilucidar y esclarecer los aspectos restrictivos en términos sociales y económicos para los países de la región, especialmente en relación con vulnerabilidad externa y relaciones laborales, a la luz de la teoría marxista de la dependencia. Utilizamos una interpretación materialista histórica de esta relación basada en datos cualitativos y cuantitativos. Así, el desarrollo del artículo se estructura en tres secciones. El primero analiza las bases conceptuales del Consenso de Washington en América Latina. El segundo se centra en el tema del capitalismo dependiente en los países latinoamericanos bajo la teoría marxista de la dependencia, y el tercero se centra en evaluar los efectos del Consenso de Washington sobre la intensificación del capitalismo dependiente en América Latina. A lo largo del argumento, demostramos cómo el Consenso de Washington fue el detonante necesario para el proceso de dependencia y sobreexplotación del trabajo en este continente.</p>
