Ultrawide range dielectric spectra from the kilohertz to terahertz range of BaTiO3 (BT), Ba(Zr0.25Ti0.75)O3 (BZT), (Ba0.6Sr0.4)TiO3 (BST), and SrTiO3 ceramics were presented by analyzing dielectric permittivity and IR reflectivity data. It was found that the permittivity of the ST was determined only by the ionic polarization while that of the BT was determined by the ionic polarization as well as the dipole polarization due to the domain contribution. The high permittivity of the BZT ceramics was attributed to the dipole polarization of polar nanoregions in the relaxors. The dipole and ionic polarizations overlapped in the BST.
This paper deals with intercultural aspects of privacy, particularly with regard to important differences between Japanese and the Western views. This paper is based on our discussions with Rafael Capurro -a dialogue now represented by two separate but closely interrelated articles. The companion paper is broadly focused on the cultural and historical backgrounds of the concepts of privacy and individualism in ''Western'' worlds; our main theme focuses on different concepts of privacy in Japan and their sources in related aspects of Japanese culture. The interrelationship between our two papers is apparent in our taking up identical or similar topics in each paper. Reading our two papers in conjunction with each other will bring about deeper and broader insights into the diverse values and worldviews of Japan and Western cultures that underlie concepts of privacy that at a surface level appear to be similar.
This paper examines how mass media in Japan influenced upon the public awareness of the global environmental issues during and prior to the Earth Summit (UNCED) in 1992. Our survey revealed substantial public concern about environmental issues in Japan. Content analysis of television news during the UNCED, however, found relatively weak relationship between the salient environmental issues of the audience and the portrayal of environmental issues in television news during the UNCED. An agenda-setting study of the newspapers during and before the UNCED showed a gradual and cumulative nature of the effects rather than the immediate effects. The amount of television viewing and the attitudes toward environmental tax showed positive association, after controlling for demographic variables, which suggested cultivation effects of the media.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
