Although the efficacy of breast cancer screening in Iran has improved, the participation of women is not yet at a satisfactory level. Some personality factors can prevent women from attending breast cancer screening and most tumors are still diagnosed at an advanced stage. We conducted a descriptive exploration study in which we recruited healthcare providers, policymakers, and clients in Iran as participants. We used conventional content analysis with an inductive approach and gathered data from 2 discussion groups and some semistructured interviews. Three main themes emerged from the analysis: selflessness, fatalistic beliefs, and emotional responses. These factors contributed to screening behavior as both inhibitors and facilitators. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Background:Psychological profile of inflammatory bowel disease patients is not well studied in Iran. We investigated the psychological status of Iranian patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and its relationship with disease activity and quality of life (QOL).Materials and Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted on adult UC patients. The Lichtiger Colitis Activity Index, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, General Health Questionnaire-12, and WHOQOL-BREF, were completed by the patients.Results:From 120 studied patients, 35 (29.2%), 48 (40.0%), and 46 (38.3%) had significant anxiety, depression, and psychological distress, respectively. Anxiety, depression, and psychological distress were strongly correlated with disease activity (r = 0.357 to 0.439, P < 0.01). Disease activity was negatively correlated with all QOL dimensions (r = −0.245 to −0.550, P < 0.01). Anxiety, depression, and psychological distress were also negatively correlated with all QOL domains (r = −0.356 to −0.789, P < 0.01). In the regression models, anxiety was independently associated with active disease (β = 4.150, P = 0.049). Furthermore, disease activity was associated with the physical health (β = −0.371, P < 0.001). For almost all of the QOL domains, depression and psychological distress were independent predictors (β = −0.296 to −0.453, P < 0.001).Conclusion:Anxiety, depression, and psychological distress are highly frequent in UC patients of our society and are strongly associated with disease activity. Depression and psychological distress are important predictors of poor QOL in these patients. Further prospective studies, as well as clinical trials, are warranted in this regard.

Background: Around 80% of the all non-melanoma skin cancer cases suffer from basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Mohs surgery is one of the common method used for treatment in recent years. There are several treatment methods for primary BCC. One of these methods is Mohs micrographic surgery (Mohs surgery), which has become popular in recent years. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate 4-year recurrence and factors affecting the recurrence of BCC patients after Mohs surgery. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study. The study population included all BCCs, who underwent Mohs surgery in Alzarha Hospital in Isfahan between 2007 and 2014, and were monitored for recurrence for 4 years. Cox regression analysis was used to determine factors affecting time recurrence. Results: The most and least frequent locations of this disease are nose (30.3%) and body (0.5%). The most common locations for recurrence are scalp (50%), nose (15%), and around the eyes (15%). The 4-year recurrence frequency of BCC after Mohs surgery was 0.9%. Cox regression analysis relationship between determining factors affecting time recurrence was not significance. Conclusions: The causes of recurrence can include the less use of protective equipment in front of sunlight or low precision of doctors in the lesion surgery in locations of the body, arms, feet, head, neck, hands, legs or genital organs, and other parts of the body.
