The recruitment and retention of international students in academic institutions in the United States has become more complicated and more competitive than ever before given the current political climate and governmental policies. This article discusses some of the specific challenges international students face and what a small- to medium-sized private university has put in place to attract these students and to better prepare them for graduate level management courses starting their first term. This example introduces an 11-week foundations course along with additional resources designed to provide knowledge, instruction, and practice in skills and behaviors crucial for academic success within the United States.
9 This chapter discusses how a change model was used to create an updated academic integrity plan. A detailed account provides valuable information for any community college wanting to effectively implement such a plan.In an evolving world, policies and procedures require frequent updates to address changing technologies, constituencies, and landscapes. While our colleges and universities need academic integrity policies and procedures to provide the "rules" for faculty, administrators, and students alike, changes need to be made more frequently today than ever before so these documents and processes can remain viable and meaningful. As the classroom environment, student composition, and information/communication technology evolve and change, so must our academic integrity policies and procedures. We will discuss how we addressed academic integrity changes at our institution and the steps our School of Management' s Academic Integrity Task Force took to create, revise, and implement a clearer, more contemporary plan that better meets the needs for today' s students and learning environment. While the particulars will vary from one institution to another, we feel there is much for community colleges to learn from our processthe ideas we implemented, the mistakes we made and, in retrospect, some things we would have done differently.
Using a Change Process Model to Bring About ChangeIt goes without saying that change-creating a new order, a new way of doing things-can be difficult to bring about. Using a change process model can provide direction and a sequence of steps that can help guide individual and group actions when an organization is going through a change effort (Burke, 2008).
