AbstractMining is the main economic sector that generates incomes for Ecuador; however, the hard ergonomic work and use of chemicals affect the ecosystem and human health. Heavy metals have specific characteristics of bioaccumulation and bioavailability in the human body by altering the physiology of neuronal synapses, respiratory alveolar membrane, locomotor system and alterations in the genetic system and cell dysplasia. So this study examines the effects on human health of individuals and their relation to mining activities by exposure to certain toxic pollutants as risk factors for miners, population of Portovelo Canton, province of El Oro-Ecuador. This activity is traditionally performed without following biosecurity actions both in the mine, narrow and hot tunnels, in the transport of material, also in processing plants where gold, silver, and other metals are processed becoming constant danger. The results of this study show health problems affecting the locomotor system, nervous system and congenital problems. Its severity depends on the dose, age, time of exposure, ways of exposure and environmental, nutritional and genetic factors.
ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was the determination of IgM antibodies IgG anti toxoplasma gondii in pregnant women, attended in a private health place, being the main reservoir of this infection the domestic cat (Felis catus), can occur at any stage of pregnancy, it is important to detect the first trimester of pregnancy to prevent disorders of the central nervous system and retinochoroiditis. The clinical method used was electroquimiolumisencia high sensitivity for the diagnosis of IgG - IgM antibodies, the results of IgG antibodies against T. gondii in pregnant women was 16% IgG anti-IgM seropositive for T. gondii, in relation of pregnant women with positive serology for T. gondii decreased linearly with the age of the patient, being the group most affected 20-25años 40 (12%) for IgG and IgM positive 25 (10%) giving reference on prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii.
Abstract Intoxication is a public health problem and one of the main causes of admission in emergency rooms nationwide and internationally. An exploratory, descriptive, and cross sectional research of a directed observation was conducted to determine the incidence of intoxication in patients of General Teófilo Dávila Hospital in El Oro Province, Ecuador, in 2012; patients were classified by age, sex, origin, and the most frequent toxicant in this area. The highest incidence was February (16.35%), in the sample of 104 intoxicated males predominated (66.35%), urban origin (88.46%) and the age group of 20-49 years (60.58%). The circumstances were: accidental (78.85%), intentional (16, 35 %) and employment (4.81%). The most important mechanism is the intake (84.62 %), the agent types are food / beverages (29.81 %) and substance abuse (25%).
Recomendando que ante la sospecha de infecciónE. coli,se realice un antibiograma para detectar el tratamiento indicado.ABSTRACTE. coli bacterial infections are frequently present with multiple factors that make their treatment more expensive, in the health field at the national level. The objective of this work is to determine the influence of the beta-lactamase enzyme on E. coli resistance against antibiotics, recognizing the antibacterials from the families of penicillins and cephalosporins inefficient in their treatment. Based on a documentary study of scientific articles on the subject under study, it is conclude that the presence of the enzyme beta-lactamase greatly influences the resistance developed by the bacterium E. coli towards antibiotics such as penicillins and cephalosporins first, second, third and fourth generation. In addition, it was determined that the antibiotics derived from penicillin, such as ampicillin and antibiotics of the cephalosporin family cefazolin, cephalothin, cefotaxime, cefepime and cefoptaxime by hydrolysis of these drugs, do not exert any antibacterial effect of resistant E. coli, representing a big problem that may increase the risk of patient mortality. It is recommended that, in case of suspected E. coli infection, an antibiogram be performed to detect the indicated treatment.
