A linha de pesquisa Design, Espaço e Mediações, vinculada ao PPG Design da UnB, propõe reflexões voltadas ao cotidiano e à configuração do espaço compreendendo seus aspectos culturais. Considera-se o campo do design em fricção com territórios, com os modos de vida e ações políticas. Os aspectos culturais e ecológicos são base para estudos do design enquanto linguagem. Pensa-se a cidade em sua multiplicidade de territórios, também como espaço construído e imaginado, lugar da cristalização de velhos modelos e hábitos, no qual reside a disponibilidade para o sonho, a inovação, a utopia, abordados na linha a partir das fricções entre poética, design e espaço urbano. Considera-se ainda o papel educativo de tal linguagem modelar, as diversas possibilidades de informar disponíveis na urbe e que podem ser potencializadas por artefatos de design. Assim pretende-se uma cidade cujos artefatos de design, sistêmicos, formais, sinaléticos busquem o processo de emancipação e coparticipação educativa.
Este artigo pretende investigar de que maneira o ensino de questões urbanas com preceitos da educação para a autonomia, pode ajudar na emancipação de pensamento do indivíduo em relação à sua condição na cidade, de maneira a potencializar a apropriação da cidade, tanto na experiência do espaço quanto na reivindicação de direitos. Para isso procurou-se entender a dinâmica do espaço, partindo da definição de espaço urbano segundo Milton Santos ( 2002) o papel do indivíduo nesse contexto segundo o sistema de ordem de relações na cidade segundo Lefebvre (2001), para entender a importância do indivíduo no tecido urbano. Posteriormente foram analisadas as prerrogativas legais que norteiam o viver em cidades brasileiras e a importância do direito à cidade, para defender sua reivindicação também como um direito. Por fim, foram analisados alguns preceitos da educação para a autonomia e como eles se inserem na educação urbana. A crise urbana é uma realidade nas cidades brasileiras e os problemas decorrentes afetam toda a população residente em áreas urbanas, logo é relevante trazer a debate maneiras de superar os problemas urbanos a partir de reivindicações que partam da própria sociedade.
Este trabalho aborda a responsabilidade social em diálogo com a educação em design como um possível caminho para que o aluno desenvolva a autonomia necessária para resolver os problemas complexos que emergem da contemporaneidade. Examina-se habilidades necessárias ao designer que compreende sua ação e seu papel ativo como sujeito neste contexto, através de revisão bibliográfica. Salienta-se a habilidade de lidar com as incertezas e complexidade do mundo, observando a subjetividade implicada no processo de design, a dinamicidade dos sistemas abertos, o processo dialógico e polissêmico em processos colaborativos de design no contexto de inovação social, exercitando a empatia e afetividade. Compreende-se que a responsabilidade social, assumida por parte do aluno de design, traz consigo a transformação pessoal, abertura ao diferente e capacidade de escuta ativa em qualquer ambiente. A inevitabilidade da transdisciplinaridade na educação em design é uma constatação e o estímulo a estudantes ocuparem posições de decisão nos processos pedagógicos é visto como catalizador destes aprendizados.
Este trabalho desenvolve uma contranarrativa a partir do design espontâneo periférico, ou seja, de soluções intuitivas criadas em situação de escassez de recursos, contextualizando seu uso em dois dos maiores centros escravistas do Brasil no Império: Rio de Janeiro e Recife. Através da cartografia, foi possível observar gambiarras nas comunidades delimitadas, contribuindo para o início da construção de uma outra história do design, que procura visibilizar a produção material daqueles que (re)existem nas atuais periferias capitalistas.
