This study examines sport coaches' perceptions about their experiences abroad. Coaches are part of a diverse new set of mobilities occurring in the sport labour market. However, few authors explored the individual cases of coaches' migration. Here we examine coaches' recruitment process, motivations to migrate, and their experiences abroad. Participants were five migrant coaches chosen through purposive sampling to achieve a pool of deep and rich data regarding the research topic. Data was collected using semi-structured interview questionnaires. For the exploration and analysis of the qualitative data, we used MAXQDA 11 software package. The results showed that all coaches migrated through an informal mechanism of recruitment which relied on their networks. Their discourse suggested they fit three types of migration referred in the literature: ambitionist, cosmopolitan and pioneer. Their experiences abroad were mainly related to their professional career and adaptation. All coaches reported that their experience was positive and they recommend that other coaches migrate as well. These results are important for the understanding of sport migration not least because coaches are at the core of the migration process of various stakeholders.
The aim of this study was to analyse handball coaches' perceptions of self-efficacy and recognition of training needs related to coaching competences according to their coaching experience, coach certification level and academic education. Two hundred and seven Portuguese handball coaches answered questionnaires that included a scale of self-efficacy and another of recognition of training needs. Data analysis started with an exploratory factorial analysis with Maximum Likelihood Factoring and Oblimin rotation. From the factors obtained, a One-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc multiple comparisons were applied. Coaches' self-efficacy revealed coaching competences related to: annual and multi-annual planning; planning and guiding training and competition; coaching methodology; implementation of sport development projects and coach education and meta-cognitive competences. Coaches' recognition of training needs revealed four main areas: planning and guiding training and competition; multi-annual planning; management of sports careers and coaching education and leadership. Although an independent relationship between coaches' perceptions of self-efficacy and training needs was confirmed, they perceived themselves as having competences and highlighted training needs in all areas. Coaches' perceptions of self-efficacy were influenced by their coach certification level, academic education and coaching experience. The study suggests that sport specificity within the social culture in addition to the precise sporting domain of action influence the perceptions of coaches about their self-efficacy and training needs as related to coaching competences and, therefore, should be considered in the coach education curriculum.

Palavras-chave: ciência, inovação, desenvolvimento This paper aims at presenting the national and international scientific context focusing not only on the historic background of Brazil and but also on the future perception of a new context to be built based on science, technology and innovation. It is demonstrated that Brazil can no longer depend only on the success of the recent years regarding the scientific production. It must also change, urgently and quickly, the level of technology and innovation. The paper tries to demonstrate that it is possible to improve the national competitiveness based on a consistent policy designed to emphasize science, technology and innovation. This policy requires, among other issues, a strong and permanent investment and an appropriate set of laws, which will allow the advance of research and innovation in the country. The paper also presents some recommendations for, on the one hand, overcome the hurdles and, on the other, help on the design of a consistent policy for the development of the country.
