Aim In this paper, we conducted a scientometric analysis on published studies related to freshwater fish species at Goiás State to evaluate: i) their spatial and temporal trends; ii) areas of knowledge; iii) scientific journals where these papers were published and their comprehensiveness; iv) the role of institutions and financial support on fish research. Methods Using Google Scholar and Lattes platform, we searched for scientific papers related to freshwater fish, and we extracted the following information of each paper: title, author and co-authors’ name, number of authors, year, authors and co-authors’ affiliation, journal, field/area of the research, and financial support. Results We found 322 scientific papers related to Goiás State with a slightly growth in the number of publications over time. Most of these papers are related to Ecology, Systematic/Taxonomy and Fish Biology, and the participation of local institutions in these studies was mainly concentrated in Paraná River basin. Although most of funding were granted by agencies or institutions located outside Goiás State, the results showed that fish papers achieved a broad audience with publications in national and international journals with impact factor. Conclusions Our study revealed that: 1) freshwater fish research at Goiás State has a slow increase trend; 2) there are gaps in Education, Conservation and Fisheries knowledge areas; 3) local institutions’ contribution is spatially concentrated; 4) studies achieved a broad audience with many scientific papers published in journals with impact factor; 5) financial support was granted in most part by agencies or institutions located outside Goiás State. These findings suggest that despite achievements in freshwater fish research in this region, local investments in infrastructure, materials and human resources are still necessary to improve the production of studies.

This study presents a review of scientiometric data about freshwater microcrustaceans (Copepoda, Ostracoda, Branchiopoda: Cladocera, Anostraca, Notostraca and Conchostraca) in Brazil from 1990Brazil from -2014. This review is based on 179 papers published across four databases, using the following keywords in the search: microcrustaceans, Copepoda, Cyclopoida, Calanoida, Harpacticoida, Ergasilidae, Daphniidae, Moinidae, Cladocera, Ostracoda, Conchostraca, zooplankton, reservoir, river, ponds, reservoirs, wetlands, caves, lakes, limnology, ecology, aquatic, taxonomy, systematics, morphology and biogeography. No studies were identified that addressed freshwater microcrustaceans in four (Amapá, Roraima, Alagoas and Espírito Santo) of the 27 Brazilian Federative States. Forty-five percent of the included studies were concentrated within three of the most populous states (São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Paraná), which also have a long tradition of limnological study. The included studies mostly addressed reservoirs for hydropower generation (22%), multiple environments (22%), rivers (14%) and small artificial reservoirs (11%). Pools, ponds, small lakes, wetlands and phytothelma were not widely studied. Cladocera (48%) and Copepoda (48%) were the most studied groups. No studies were identified that addressed Notostraca, Anostraca or Conchostraca. The sharp increase in the number of published freshwater studies after 2000 is likely a result of increased internet facilities and the implementation of the Scielo platform. Ecology was most frequently the study focus (~50%), followed by taxonomy. Three journals (two Brazilian and one international) accounted for the publication of 44% of the Brazilian studies on microcrustaceans. We expect the frequency of studies employing newer technologies to increase in the coming years. Based on our findings, we propose that future studies should focus on the least well-studied states and should integrate biogeography and systematic approaches. Further data on the fauna within environmental sub-types in Brazil is required.Keywords: Cladocera, Copepoda, Ostracoda, Conchostraca, study approaches. Objetiva identificar a posição dos professores dos Institutos Federais de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia sobre a origem de estímulos para desenvolverem pesquisas, sua opinião sobre a atuação dos organismos de apoio às pesquisas e ainda formas de divulgação de sua produção. O universo da pesquisa é composto dos 24.335 professores lotados nos 38 Institutos Federais existentes no país, dentre os quais foi retirada uma amostra aleatória simples de 165 indivíduos, distribuída proporcionalmente ao número de professores em cada um dos Institutos Federais. Um levantamento na Plataforma Lattes do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq), nos currículos dos 165 professores da amostra identificou 96 professores com currículos atualizados e com produção cadastrada. Para esses 96 professores foi realizada a coleta dos dados via questionários, com perguntas abertas e fechadas enviadas por e-mail. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise qualitativa e quantitativa. Resultados mostram que os professores/pesquisadores dos Institutos Federais identificam como principal estímulo para desenvolver suas pesquisas as necessidades da carreira acadêmica; contam com a pouca atuação dos núcleos de inovação tecnológica e das coordenações ou departamentos de pesquisa no apoio ao desenvolvimento de suas pesquisas e divulgam o conhecimento produzido por meio de apresentação oral de trabalhos, seguida de trabalhos publicados em anais de eventos. A produção bibliográfica é o canal preferencial utilizado pelos professores dos Institutos Federais.
