Abstract:Although there has been much work published that assumes that independent community archives have an important impact on communities, little research has been done to empirically assess this impact. This research paper begins to fill in this gap by reporting on the results of a series of qualitative interviews with academic members of one ethnic community regarding their responses to one community archives. More specifically, this study reports on interviews conducted with South Asian American educators regarding their responses to the South Asian American Digital Archive (SAADA), an independent nonprofit community-based organization that operates the websites www.saadigitalarchive.org. and www.firstdaysproject.org. The study reports on several emergent themes: the absence of or difficulty in accessing historical materials related to South Asian Americans before the emergence of SAADA; the affective and ontological impact of discovering SAADA for the first time; the affective impact of SAADA on respondents' South Asian American students; and SAADA's ability to promote feelings of inclusion both within the South Asian American ethnic community and in the larger society. Together, these 1 The authors would like to thank Anne Gilliland, Ricardo Punzalan, and Gregory Leazer for their insightful comments on an earlier draft of this paper and all of the respondents for their participation.1 responses suggest the ways in which one community archives counters the symbolic annihilation of the community it serves, and instead produces feelings of what we term "representational belonging." The paper concludes by exploring the epistemological, ontological, and social levels of representational belonging.
Taking Mark Greene's Fall/Winter 2013 American Archivist article, "A Critique of Social Justice as an Archival Imperative: What Is It We're Doing That's All That Important?," as its point of departure, this article poses a critique of normative assumptions of race prevalent in the archival profession and analyzes the concomitant resistance to the integration of social justice and the political. In the recent past, an increasing emphasis has been placed on rethinking the role of archives and archivists, and the ways in which each reinforces unequal power structures and the manufacturing of distorted histories. This notwithstanding, Greene's article points toward a strain of resistance to self-reflexivity within the archives community, and, moreover, is emblematic of an inability to think critically about race, whiteness, and sociocultural positionality that is supported by the escalating homogeneity of the profession. Using perspectives derived from archival theory, philosophy, and political science, this article teases out some of the reasons for this resistance to the "political" and critical within archives, and the problematic implications of efforts to continuously assert the neutrality, if not objectivity, of archival space. It reflects on the ramifications of this latter phenomenon for the archival profession and how it helps reinforce social and political inequalities that curb nascent organizational efforts at diversity and inclusivity.
Physics has historically been a goal and as a media to reach out for other educational skills. Unfortunately, in Mexico preschool teachers lack tools to develop science in their little students. To help in this situation, we propose the use of “Einstein Box,” a set of toys where the kids can select and play with, then teachers explain the general physics concepts involved in the working of the toys. The results for the kids are amazing because they not only learn about basic physics, furthermore, mathematical thinking, social skills and verbal abilities, all around physics concepts.
Palabras Clave: Estilos de Aprendizaje, Estilos de Enseñanza, Hemisfericidad Cerebral, Práctica Innovadora.INTRODUCTION OF 4MAT SYSTEM OF LEARNING STYLES FOR THE INNOVATIVE PRACTICE EN SCIENCE TEACHING, CASE UNIVERSIDAD AUTÓNOMA DEL ESTADO DE HIDALGO, MÉXICO Abstract: In this article we present the experience derived from the introduction of 4MAT methodology to high school teachers who, by being aware of the importance of knowing both their learning styles and their students', incorporate such methodology into their teaching practice. The practice was considered as an innovative way of teaching. Key Words: Learning Styles, Teaching Styles, Brain Hemifericity, Innovation Practice.
