The transition to parenthood is an important step during which individuals may experience a state of vulnerability with numerous and interconnected dimensions. The variousforms of postnatal support therefore need to be harmonised in order to support parents. Research is needed on the harmonisation of the various support networks, which raises significant challenges, especially in terms of resources, funding, and information exchange, that must be documented.
This commentary addresses barriers to care among older adults living with neurodiversity (ND), and their aging family carers in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. Factors contributing to inequities are described and the significant negative consequences of current policy decisions on the social and mental health of older adults with ND and their aging family carers are highlighted. The commentary calls for a collective social work response that highlights the critical role of support and advocacy necessary to redress social exclusion.
Les comités de résidents en centre d’hébergement font partie d’un vaste réseau de comités implantés dans l’ensemble des établissements de santé et de services sociaux au Québec. Composés de résidents des centres d’hébergement et de proches parents, ils se réunissent pour discuter de leurs préoccupations et de leurs besoins, et formuler des demandes et des recommandations à la direction touchant les conditions de vie, le respect des droits et la qualité des services. Leur statut et leur mandat incertains posent la question de leur autonomie au sein des établissements et de leur capacité à changer et à élargir la compréhension des problèmes. Nous montrons comment ces mécanismes de participation publique s’insèrent dans l’organisation et deviennent un instrument de gestion, mais comment aussi ils parviennent à acquérir une autonomie, à apporter un point de vue original sur les réalités discutées et à exercer une influence.
