Considerando a relevância e aplicação da fototerapia no tratamento da hiperbilirrubinemia em recém-nascidos, este artigo buscou descrever a eficácia dos tipos de fototerapia para hiperbilirrubinemia neonatal em comparação com a fototerapia convencional. O presente trabalho trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura. As buscas foram realizadas nas bases eletrônicas científicas Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde Brasil (BVS), na U. S. National Library of Medicine (PubMed) e Google Scholar. As pesquisas foram atualizadas até setembro de 2022, para verificação de um possível novo estudo publicado a respeito do tema pesquisado. Para nortear a busca, foram aplicados os Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (DeCS) e Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). Foram selecionados os estudos que continham os descritores no título, resumo e palavras-chave. Foram utilizados os operadores booleanos "AND" e "OR", bem como os parênteses para facilitar a busca dos manuscritos. Concluiu-se que alguns tipos de fototerapia, como a circunferencial, a de fibra óptica e de materiais refletivos, mostraram resultados mais eficazes quando comparadas a fototerapia convencional. Enquanto que a intermitente, a domiciliar, fototerapia juntamente com KMC e a fototerapia mais sulfato de zinco não foram estatisticamente significativas quando comparadas a convencional. Um estudo constatou que a fototerapia intensiva em comparação a convencional, reduz significativamente a necessidade de exsanguíneotransfusão. A fototerapia convencional quando comparada a fototerapia fiberoptic, a dupla e a combinada, mostrou-se menos eficaz na redução dos níveis de bilirrubina. Dois estudos que apresentaram divergência em relação a luz LED quando comparada a fototerapia convencional.
