AVALIANDO A INCIDÊNCIA DOS CASOS NOTIFICADOS DE AIDS EM IDOSOS NO ESTADO DE MINAS GERAIS NO PERÍODO DE 1999 a 2004ABSTRACT: This study presents a method to consult on-line information about the profile of notified cases of aged people with AIDS in the state of Minas Gerais/Brazil, between 1999 and 2004, through the database of the National STD and AIDS Program. A retrospective and descriptive study was carried out and it was evidenced a large number of people over 60 notified with AIDS. In this group, the number of women and heterosexuals was relevant. The obtained knowledge helps construct the situational picture of AIDS in aged people, allowing health professionals to access tools that may guide their actions in teaching, research and care. Moreover, public health and prevention strategies need to be incorporated to national campaigns for this share of the population, which is so marginalized and surrounded by social prejudices in terms of sex and sexuality. KEYWORDS: AIDS; Aged people.
