N a sociedade brasileira ainda há uma situação precária e deplorável em relação às crianças e adolescentes soropositivas em regime de acolhimento para fins de adoção. As crianças e adolescentes soropositivas precisam de cuidados específicos, para que haja a reversibilidade da doença de fatal para crônica. Contudo, há, por parte dos pretendentes à adoção, preconceitos clínicos e omissão em adotá-los. A disparidade aumenta quando se trata de criança e adolescente negro ou pardo. O que se pretende analisar no presente artigo é o perfil da criança e do adolescente destinado à adoção na Casa Sagrada Família (CASF), no Estado do Espírito Santo. Resumo: o presente artigo visa abordar o perfil da criança e do adolescente propenso à adoção na Casa Sagrada Família, no Estado do Espírito Santo. Nessa perspectiva, apresenta-se histórico-social da infância no Brasil. Em seguida, analisa-se o instituto da adoção e prossegue para a análise da adoção de crianças e adolescentes soropositivos, apontando-se os termos clínicos e as necessidades singulares do portador do Vírus da Imunodeficiência Humana (HIV). Considerando-se a importância do convívio e da aproximação com o acolhimento institucional das crianças e adolescentes na Casa Sagrada Família, apresenta-se uma descrição densa do acolhimento institucional, analisando os aspectos sociais e jurídicos das crianças e adolescentes soropositivos que passaram pelo acolhimento.
