Se presenta un estudio realizado a través de un cuestionario online distribuido a los suscriptores de la lista EDICIC creada por la Asociación de Educación e Investigación en Ciencia de la Información de Iberoamérica y el Caribe que ha tenido varios objetivos: a) conocer el nivel de utilidad de las listas de distribución de correo electrónico respecto a otros sistemas que permiten recibir información de utilidad para el trabajo cotidiano de profesionales e investigadores; b) la opinión de los suscriptores sobre la utilidad de estas listas de distribución respecto a los procesos para compartir conocimiento con otros colegas; y c) y finalmente la satisfacción con la propia lista EDICIC para sus usuarios. Los resultados señalan la importancia que las listas de distribución siguen teniendo para el mundo académico y profesional frente a otros sistemas. Se revela como una fuente eficaz para conocer la experiencia y el saber de otros colegas. La capacidad informativa que tienen las listas de distribución, su facilidad de uso (los suscriptores reciben los mensajes de manera pasiva en sus buzones de correo), unida a su carácter especializado (reúne a comunidades agrupadas en intereses particulares) hacen de las listas de distribución de correo electrónico útiles herramientas para la comunidad científica y académica.
