The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and rheumatic diseases in an urban community in Venezuela. We conducted a cross-sectional, community-based study using the COPCORD (Community Oriented Program for Control of Rheumatic Diseases) methodology in subjects older than 18 years. Positive cases were evaluated by rheumatologists. We surveyed 3,973 individuals (1,606 males and 2,367 females), with a mean age of 43.7 years (standard deviation (SD) 17.6). Mean duration of education was 8.9 years (SD 3.7), 79.2 % had a monthly income of < US$569, and 46.4 % were working. Excluding trauma, the prevalence of pain in the 7 days prior to interview was 19.9 % (95 % confidence interval (CI) 18.7-21.2 %). Mean pain intensity on a visual analog scale was 6.3 (SD 2.2), and 30.1 % (95 % CI 28.7-31.6 %) had a history of pain. Respondents reported pain in the knees, back, hands, shoulders, and ankles in the last 7 days; 4.7 % described current functional limitation, with 16.5 % reporting limitations in the past. Regarding treatment, 23.9 % received medication, 6.4 % received physical therapy, and 2.6 % received alternative treatment. The main diagnoses were osteoarthritis in 15.0 % (95 % CI 13.9-16.1 %), rheumatic regional pain syndromes in 6.3 % (95 % CI 5.5-7.1 %), back pain in 2.8 % (95 % CI 2.3-3.4 %), rheumatoid arthritis in 0.4 % (95 % CI 0.2-0.6 %), crystal arthropathy in 0.3 % (95 % CI 0.1-0.5 %), fibromyalgia in 0.2 % (95 % CI 0.1-0.4 %), and systemic lupus erythematosus in 0.07 % (95 % CI 0.01-0.2 %). The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders was 22.4 %, and the most prevalent disease was osteoarthritis. Pain, in which a patient is receiving treatment for musculoskeletal disorders, and physical disability were associated with the presence of a rheumatic disease.

The laparoscopic access is a safe technique with satisfactory functional results after medium-term follow-up.

There is improvement of continence in both groups that had the ointment applied; nonetheless this study could not show that TE improves FI more than a placebo does.

Background To assess differences in platelet inhibition during ticagrelor monotherapy (TIC) or dual therapy with ticagrelor and aspirin (TIC+ASP) in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention using a comprehensive panel of functional tests. Methods and Results In a single‐center parallel group, open label, randomized controlled trial, 110 participants were randomized to receive either TIC (n=55) or TIC+ASP (n=55) for 4 weeks. The primary outcome was the platelet aggregation response with 10 μmol/L thrombin receptor activation peptide‐6 (TRAP‐6). The secondary outcomes were platelet aggregation responses and binding of surface activation markers with a panel of other activators. The mean percentage aggregation for 10 μmol/L TRAP‐6 was similar for the TIC and TIC+ASP groups (mean difference+4.29; 95% CI, −0.87 to +9.46). Aggregation was higher in the TIC group compared with the TIC+ASP group with 1 μg/mL (+6.47; +2.04 to +10.90) and 0.5 μg/mL (+14.00; +7.63 to +20.39) collagen related peptide. Aggregation responses with 5 μmol/L TRAP‐6, 5 μmol/L or 2.5 μmol/L thromboxane A 2 receptor agonist and surface activation marker binding with 5 μmol/L TRAP‐6 or 0.5 μg/mL collagen related peptide were the same between the treatment groups. Conclusions Patients with PCI show similar levels of inhibition of most platelet activation pathways with TIC compared with dual therapy with TIC + ASP. However, the greater aggregation response with collagen related peptide during TIC indicates incomplete inhibition of glycoprotein VI (collagen) receptor‐mediated platelet activation. This difference in pharmacodynamic response to anti‐platelet medication may contribute to the lower bleeding rates observed with TIC compared with dual antiplatelet therapy in recent clinical trials. Este artículo muestra cómo docentes de la carrera de Profesorado y Licenciatura en Letras de una universidad pública argentina lograron entramar prácticas de escritura académica con prácticas de enseñanza, a fin de actualizar en sus aulas los potenciales epistémicos de la escritura. Enmarcados en un estudio de casos múltiples, configurado como una investigación didáctica naturalista, los resultados expuestos aquí provienen de dos fuentes de datos: entrevistas a alumnos y recolección de materiales de trabajo (consignas de escritura y producciones de alumnos). El análisis de tales datos estuvo guiado por la codificación y la contextualización, buscando las relaciones de similitud y contigüidad entre ellos. Desde el punto de vista teórico, teniendo como antecedentes los estudios sobre escribir a través del currículum (WAC), esta investigación retoma la noción de transposición didáctica propuesta por Chevallard para caracterizar de qué formas se entraman prácticas de enseñanza con escritura, en particular, cuando los docentes trabajan en sus clases una práctica de escritura disciplinar. Así, hallamos que, para transponer en el aula prácticas de escritura que resultasen potencialmente epistémicas y no propedéuticas, los docentes precisaron trabajar con una escritura argumentativa y vigilar cuidadosamente que las circunstancias de producción de tales prácticas fuesen similares a las que se desarrollan en el ámbito de las comunidades disciplinares a las que aspiran a pertenecer sus alumnos.
