La espectroscopia de emisión óptica con plasma acoplado inductivamente (ICP-OES, por sus siglas en inglés), es una de las técnicas más usadas en todo el mundo para determinar trazas de elementos en una gran variedad de matrices, las cuales comúnmente deben digerirse previamente. Hoy en día, es una técnica sólida y ampliamente usada en muchos laboratorios con la finalidad de realizar análisis rutinarios. Entre las principales áreas que emplean esta técnica se encuentran: agricultura y alimentos, geología, aguas y en el campo de la medicina. El objetivo del presente estudio consiste en plasmar aspectos generales acerca de la espectroscopia de emisión óptica por plasma acoplado inductivamente, tales como la espectroscopia de emisión (OES), espectroscopía de emisión óptica por plasma acoplado inductivamente (ICP-OES), la fuente de plasma acoplada inductivamente, principios de funcionamiento, aplicaciones, ventajas y desventajas. El modelo de investigación es una revisión de tipo documental bibliográfico. Entre las principales ventajas se encuentran una menor interferencia entre elementos consecuencia directa de sus temperaturas más elevadas y buenos espectros para la mayoría de los elementos con unas mismas condiciones de excitación, en consecuencia, el registro simultáneo de los espectros para docenas de elementos. Como toda técnica también tiene sus desventajas, entre las que se encuentran ser una técnica de alto costo de adquisición y mantenimiento, requieren pretratamiento de muestra, además de capacitación especializada para su manejo. El camino por recorrer en la investigación que puede aportar la IPC-OES es muy largo, el avance de la tecnología alrededor de esta técnica pronostica un panorama positivo en la mejora del estudio de la materia, no obstante, es fundamental el conocimiento y manejo de los conceptos actuales de esta técnica
El uso de combustibles fósiles, los productos de desecho domésticos e industriales, la minería y la agricultura contaminan el aire, el agua y el suelo. Los productos químicos contaminantes pueden tener implicaciones considerables para la salud, la seguridad humana, el bienestar y el valor de la naturaleza. Los contaminantes del aire incluyen dióxido de carbono (CO2), metano (CH4), óxido nitroso (N2O), óxidos de nitrógeno (NOx), hidrofluorocarbonos (HFC), perfluorocarbonos (PFC) y hexafluoruro de azufre (SF6). Estos gases provocan cambios climáticos al aumentar la temperatura de la tierra, atmósfera y océanos, lo que genera alteraciones impredecibles en las precipitaciones, aumento del nivel del mar y eventos climáticos extremos. La contaminación del aire se puede controlar mediante la aprobación de una ley contra la producción de sustancias químicas nocivas, la introducción de dispositivos especiales que reduzcan los gases de efecto invernadero y el uso de fuentes alternativas de energía. Los principales contaminantes del agua incluyen aguas residuales, productos derivados del petróleo (como bifenilos policlorados), nitratos, insecticidas, sedimentos y exceso de materia orgánica. Los productos químicos nocivos pueden llegar al agua desde la salida de las tuberías en las industrias; fugas de tuberías o tanques de almacenamiento, operaciones mineras, aplicación inadecuada de fertilizantes y pesticidas en campos agrícolas y algunas fugas de barcos. La contaminación del agua afecta órganos vitales del cuerpo, sistemas nerviosos, y provocan diferentes tipos de cánceres, efectos cardiovasculares, entre otros.
El presente libro, aborda diversos fundamentos teóricos que sustentan el trabajo docente educativo que se genera en las universidades latinoamericanas, como instituciones de educación superior avaladas para el desarrollo de una cultura general integral en los individuos de un país, a través del perfeccionamiento de los procesos sustantivos: académico, investigativo-laboral y extensionistas. Consta de tres capítulos; el primero relacionado con los retos y perspectivas que asume hoy la educación superior en Latinoamérica y el Caribe; el segundo aborda las particularidades que exhibe la pedagogía de la educación superior en sentido general y en especial en Ecuador; el tercer capítulo hace referencia al binomio educación- prevención, como relación esencial que se debe establecer entre los sujetos que intervienen en esos procesos para un efectivo desarrollo cognitivo, afectivo, comunicativo y sociocultural del individuo. Con esta obra, se aspira a proporcionar a los docentes e investigadores que laboran en instituciones de educación superior, de supuestos teóricos que contribuyan a perfeccionar la labor formativa, educativa y pedagógica que realizan; y tiene en cuenta el encargo social de las universidades latinoamericanas y del caribe, además de los nuevos enfoques que existen actualmente para su desarrollo.
El mundo se enfrenta a un incremento exponencial en problemas de disponibilidad de agua apta para el consumo humano como consecuencia del cambio climático motivado por el incremento de la temperatura en el planeta por efecto invernadero en la atmosfera que ha conllevado a grandes sequías, inundaciones y aumento del nivel del mar que pudieran estar afectando las composición química de las reservas de agua dulce, cercanos al eje costero. En base a esta problemática, la desalinización de agua salobre o de mar es una opción que podría resolver el problema planteado. En este artículo se revisan los principales procesos de tratamientos del agua y se analiza la factibilidad de la tecnología para tratar las aguas salobres y marina que garanticen de manera rentable, eficiente y sostenible el acceso al agua con la calidad y cantidad necesaria para la continuación de la vida en el planeta. Los resultados de dicha revisión documental permiten identificar que dentro de los procesos de desmineralización existe la tecnología que promete cumplir con las expectativas planteada como lo es la Osmosis Inversa pero que aun es necesario realizar mejoras para que pueda ser accesible y sostenible.
