OBJETIVO: O artigo analisa a contribuição da educação nutricional a partir das suas dimensões sócio-políticas que permeiam a promoção da saúde. MÉTODOS: Trata-se de uma oficina ludopedagógica sobre Nutrição, Saúde e Envelhecimento com idosos que freqüentaram um programa universitário da terceira idade, em encontros semanais. O estudo foi do tipo exploratório e descritivo, inserido na modalidade qualitativa, ancorada na observação participante e na entrevista semi-estruturada, tendo em vista a apreensão das concepções, atitudes e reflexões dos sujeitos em relação às práticas alimentares e ao estilo de vida, bem como ao próprio processo de envelhecimento. RESULTADOS: Os depoimentos dos idosos revelaram, como aspectos motivacionais para ingressar no programa e cursar a oficina, o ensino-aprendizagem, a integração social e o cuidado com a saúde. As concepções sobre a contribuição da educação nutricional para a promoção da saúde foram categorizadas nas temáticas: capacidade funcional e autocuidado. CONCLUSÃO: Frente aos resultados elaborou-se uma reflexão sobre a educação gerontológica, com ênfase nas dimensões sócio-políticas da educação nutricional, capaz de permear hábitos alimentares e estilo de vida saudáveis no curso da vida, pressupondo que ações interdisciplinares que visam à preservação, à manutenção ou à promoção da capacidade funcional do cidadão idoso, são possibilidades na direção da busca da qualidade de vida daqueles que envelhecem.

Estudo descritivo, exploratório e de campo desenvolvido no Curso de Especialização em Saúde da Família, em 2007, para conhecer a percepção da equipe de saúde da família sobre a atenção à pessoa idosa, em uma unidade mista de saúde em Teresina-PI. Serviu-se da abordagem qualitativa com entrevistas semiestruturadas gravadas e transcritas e da observação in loco. Os sujeitos foram os profissionais das quatro equipes da unidade: agente comunitário de saúde, auxiliar de enfermagem, enfermeiro, odontólogo e médico. Após leituras e releituras das entrevistas, estas foram ordenadas e analisadas em três categorias temáticas: percepções sobre a Política Nacional de Saúde da Pessoa Idosa; percepções sobre as condições de saúde dos idosos; percepções sobre suas atitudes promocionais e preventivas ao envelhecimento ativo e saudável. As ações ainda não são norteadas no paradigma da capacidade funcional, como prevê a política de saúde. Embora as equipes se esforcem na atenção dos idosos e famílias, as atitudes são tímidas, isoladas e fragmentadas no município.

RESUMO INTRODUÇÃO: O envelhecimento provoca, simultaneamente, profundas mudanças na composição corporal e no estado nutricional do idoso. OBJETIVO: Avaliar as perdas de massas muscular e adiposa em residentes de uma Instituição de Longa Permanência para Idosos. MÉTODOS: Estudo observacional e longitudinal, com intervalo de três meses entre as duas avaliações. Participaram 34 idosos (média de idade: 81,8 anos; 23,5% homens; 76,5% mulheres), residentes em uma Instituição de Longa Permanência para Idosos de Teresina, Piauí. Medidas antropométricas da composição corporal, aferidas em triplicata, pelo mesmo pesquisador, por compasso de Lange e fita métrica inextensível da circunferência da panturrilha e prega cutânea tricipital, foram utilizadas para classificar o estado nutricional. RESULTADOS: Na avaliação inicial 24 (70,6%) e 16 (47,1%) indivíduos apresentaram desnutrição proteica e energética, segundo circunferência da panturrilha e prega cutânea tricipital, respectivamente. Após três meses, houve aumento da desnutrição proteica e energética para 27 (79,4% -circunferência da panturrilha) e 17 (50% -prega cutânea tricipital) indivíduos, sem significância estatística entre sexos. No entanto, houve piora significativa entre as médias de circunferência da panturrilha (29,9 ± 2,9; 28,8 ± 2,6; p < 0,05) nos idosos com idade entre 70 e 79 anos. Esse agravamento do estado nutricional, a partir de perdas nas reservas de massa muscular e adiposa, é reafirmado, inclusive, com diferenças significativas ao se comparar frequências e distribuições de circunferência da panturrilha e prega cutânea tricipital entre as duas avaliações do total de estudados. CONCLUSÃO: As avaliações nutricionais comprovaram mudanças importantes na composição corporal dos idosos institucionalizados, gerando risco nutricional, que requer atenção aos mais idosos. OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the loss of muscle and adipose mass in residents of a Long Term Care Institution for the Elderly. METHODS: Observational and longitudinal study with an interval of three months between the two evaluations. Introduction: Nutritional conditions and food patterns in preschool children are elements that emphasise the importance of health monitoring in this period of nutritional transition, both to ensure nutritional adequacy and how much to intervene in identifi ed inadequacies. Hence, it may also constitute a strategy for public programs and school health services to make decisions. Objective: To analyse the anthropometric and dietary profi les of pre-schoolers of a pole city in Northeastern Brazil. Methods: This is a cross-sectional evaluative study with 114 children aged 2-5 years, of both genders, in three municipal centres of early childhood education. Anthropometry was used to measure weight and height, and the nutritional condition was assessed using the indexes Height for Age (H/A), Weight for Age (W/A), Weight for Height (W/H) and Body Mass Index for Age (BMI/A) in z-score values with classifi cations established by the World Health Organization. The food intake record was done by direct weighing of the food menu offered during a week in the three institutions. This procedure allowed for the evaluation of the nutritional composition of menus, from the estimates in percentages, average and standard deviations of total calories, macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates and lipids) and micronutrients (calcium, iron, vitamins A and C), to the adjustments and comparisons to the reference values of the Recommended Dietary Allowances, National Research Council and the PNAE recommendations, by age stages, in full-time units, 1-3 years, 700 kcal; 4-5 years, 950 kcal (70% coverage prediction of daily nutritional requirements) and the part-time units, these same ranges of age, respectively, 200 and 270 kcal (20% coverage for forecasting nutritional needs daily), considering adequate consumption to that with a variation of up to 10% above or below 100% of these recommendations. Results: Most of the preschool children had adequate nutritional conditions, especially those of full-time units, with relative frequencies (W/A: 94.5%; W/H: 89.5%, BMI/A: 81.7%). There were registered also overweight percentages higher than the defi cits, in the indices W/A (22.2%), P/E (33.3%) to municipal early childhood centre CMEI-A girls; the indices W/A, W/H, BMI/A (23.8% each) in CMEI B-boys. In relation to the adequacy of the food profi le, there was only convergence between the offer and the recommendation of 70% coverage of the daily energy needs, for pre-schoolers of 4-5 years from the centre of full-time units (mean: 951.2 ± 172.3 kcal). As for nutrients, inadequacies had a trend in the coverage of the daily needs on the menu offered in part-time units. Conclusion: Although most children do not present indicative of nutritional risk, requires attention to food portion that was with inadequacies of nutritional condition, with emphasis on weight surplus, while the readjustments in per capita and in portions of the menu implemented in those locations.

O envelhecimento populacional é um fenômeno mundial, que não afeta só o ser humano, mas a família, a comunidade e a sociedade. Reconhece-se, no entanto, que é um processo normal, dinâmico, que envolve perdas no plano biológico, socioafetivo e político, demandando vulnerabilidades diferenciadas por gênero, idade, classe social, raça, regiões geográficas, entre outras variáveis. Tais vulnerabilidades refletem na expectativa de vida, na morbidade, na mortalidade prematura, na incapacidade e na má qualidade de vida. Para tanto, este estudo é parte da revisão que ancorou nossa dissertação de mestrado em Políticas Públicas, tendo por objetivo refletir sobre algumas questões deste fenômeno contemporâneo, tomando por base os campos conceitual, sociodemográfico e político-educacional, com ênfase nas ações didáticopedagógicas propostas pelo Programa Terceira Idade em Ação (PTIA), da Universidade Federal do Piauí (UFPI). Contextualizando a questão... Falar do envelhecimento humano nos remete a indagações complexas e conflituosas, primeiro, porque é um tema abrangente, que traz à tona muitos desafios às diversas áreas do conhecimento; em segundo lugar, pela carga de preconceitos que rondam este fenômeno inexorável a todos os indivíduos. Assim, um dos primeiros questionamentos que fazemos está atrelado à terminologia: idoso, pessoa idosa, velho, ancião, senil, terceira idade? Qual é o termo mais propício para se designar o indivíduo que envelhece? Para analisar tal questão, buscamos nas evidências científicas os conceitos de velhice e de envelhecimento com a pretensão de entender esta conflitualidade. O conceito de velhice caracteriza-se como a última fase do processo de envelhecimento, pois a velhice não é um processo como o envelhecimento, é antes um estado próprio do ser humano idoso. The article evaluates the satisfaction of the elderly about the quality of the Brazilian Public Health Service, based on an integrative literature review study, which gathers information published between 2011 and 2018, about this group the perception of related to the service provided by the health care network. This consists of five stages: guiding question elaboration, literature search, critical data analysis, data integration and presentation of results. It was consulted SciElo, LILACS and Capes Periodicals databases, with the following descriptors: "elderly", "user satisfaction", "health service evaluation" and "primary health care". After selecting the studies, 14 articles were used to structure this integrative review. It is noticed that a good part of the elderly population feels satisfied with the service that is offered by most institutions in the public health network. However, controversies are observed in studies, since some presented a positive evaluation in several aspects cited by the elderly, such as, the care and guidance provided by professionals, while others, exhibit these same indicators considered serious weaknesses, such as ease of access to these services. Therefore, the satisfaction of the elderly with the public health service was noted, among which the assistance and guidance of the different professionals were the best evaluated indicators by the respondents.

In aging, some level of functional impairment is common as a consequence of health problems inherent to this phase of life. The literature demonstrates the importance of micronutrients for prevention or control of these diseases. In this context, vitamin B12 and folic acid (B9) are noteworthy, as their deficiency is associated with complications that may decrease the quality of life of this population. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to perform a review to describe important aspects related to the association between B12 and B9 in the cognitive health of the elderly. A total of 16 articles were used to compose the review, divided into 3 analysis categories that relate these micronutrients to the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease, loss of cognition and the presence of depression in the elderly. Low levels of B12 and B9 have been observed in Alzheimer's disease. Most articles related reduced vitamin levels with poor performance on cognitive performance, and finally, low concentrations of micronutrients were found in elderly with depression. Based on the above, it can be inferred that B12 and B9 deficiency is associated with increased homocysteine and methylmalonic acid concentrations that cause central nervous system alterations, especially resulting in depression and cognitive impairment, making it important to routinely evaluate the levels of these vitamins. in the elderly as they constitute a group of high vulnerability.

Objective: To show the influence of eating patterns and lifestyles on aging. Method: This study is an integrative review of the literature that relates food consumption and lifestyle in the aging process. It consisted of five steps: elaboration of the guiding question, search in the literature, critical analysis of data, integration of data and presentation of results. We used the databases SciElo, LILACS and Pubmed with the descriptors "Food consumption, lifestyle, aging". After the selection of the studies, 15 articles were used for structuring this integrative review. Results: Regarding food, the studies highlighted the importance of regulator food consumption and the reduction of foods with high caloric value. The practice of regular physical activity has shown to be a great ally in improving the quality of aging. As for smoking and alcoholism, practices that are incompatible with healthy aging are considered. Most of the selected studies worked with elderly people in the age group from 60 years and revealed that many of them do not have the habit of smoking and consuming alcoholic beverages. Conclusion: Adequate diet and physical activity are determinants that positively influence the active aging process, while smoking and alcoholism can lead to chronic morbidity. The studies also reveal the need to carry out more educational actions aimed at this population group in order to stimulate the improvement of health and quality of life.
