RESUMO O objetivo deste artigo é analisar a organização da instrução pública primária na província do Pará no período de 1851 a 1861. Para atingir tal propósito, metodologicamente nos apoiamos no tipo de pesquisa documental e bibliográfica, que inclui relatórios dos diretores da instrução pública, relatórios dos presidentes da província do Pará, legislação educacional e o jornal "Diário do Gram-Pará". Epistemologicamente fundamentamo-nos na "história cultural". Entendemos que este estudo contribui para a escrita da história da educação na Amazônia, trazendo para discussão a instrução primária na província do Pará, na segunda metade do século XIX. Século XIX.ABSTRACT The objective of this article is to analyze organization of primary public education in the province of Pará in the period 1851 to 1861. To achieve this purpose, methodological support in the type of documentary and bibliographic research, which includes reports from directors of public education, reports of the presidents of the province of Pará, educational legislation and the newspaper "Daily of Gram-Pará". Epistemologically fundamented in the "cultural history". We believe that this study contributes to the writing of the history of education in the Amazon, bringing discussion to primary education in the province of Pará, in the second half of the XIX century.
