READING STRATEGIES AND WRITING DEVELOPMENT IN THE LITERACY ACQUISITION Reading strategies and literacy AbstractThis study aims to identify the reading strategies -logographic, alphabetic and orthography -used by children without reading learning difficulties manifested and the relation between the strategies and writing performance. It were evaluated 55 first class students from public school with the Prova de Escrita sob Ditado and Teste de Competência de Leitura Silenciosa -TeCoLeSi. The results showed positive correlation between the students' score in Prova de Escrita sob Ditado and TeCoLeSi (r = 0,33; p = 0,028). The poor readers group was discriminated by the phonological strategy performance; the others didn't discriminate the groups. It's shows that this strategy is the more frequently used in this school stage. By this result, it's suggests to teach reading strategies in the beginning of the reading acquisition.
This study aimed to analyze the efficiency of the Cloze Oriented System (COS) considering its relation with reading attitude and its validity. The Electronic Program Comprehension (EPC) for students from K1 to K4 based on the COS parts of stories from the Brazilian Children's literature was applied in eighteen class-hours. The 40 subjects, ten in each grade, of both genders aged 7 to 11 years, were evaluated before and after the EPC with a Cloze test. They answered the Elementary Reading Attitude Survey too, in a printed protocol adapted to Portuguese, to evaluate the reading attitude of the students and the influence of the EPC in the academic and recreational reading. The results showed that the performance in reading comprehension of all the subjects was higher after taking part in the EPC, and also had significant differences in reading attitude, according to the results of the T of Wilcoxon statistic test. A correlation between comprehension performance before and after the EPC and the reading attitude was verified. There was significant difference for academic reading attitude in the post-test between proficient readers and the one's that has low skill.
Assessment of Academic Motivation Scale for students from São Paulo: psychometric properties AbstractThe students' motivation has been highlighted in the educational context as an important construct, as a function of effective teaching and meaningful learning. According with this concept, this study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of a Brazilian version of the Academic Motivation Scale (EMA) applied to 170 university students from São Paulo, of which 71% female, aged 18 to 25 years in the courses of biological sciences, physical education, nutrition, psychology and pedagogy. The results showed that the students' best averaged score were in intrinsic motivation factor and the worst was in social reward external motivation factor. There were significant statistical differences in the students' self-perception of motivation to university only due to course taken. There was correlation between the factors' scale with the academic performance. The Cronbach's accuracy was very good. The validity and accuracy results give the psychometrics' characteristics to EMA. Keywords: Self-regulation, Motivation, Psychometrics, Higher education.
Purpose:To conduct a systematic review of literature production related to risk factors for proper oral language development in children. Methods:We used the terms "child language," "risk factors," and "randomized controlled trial" in MEDLINE (accessed via PubMed), Lilacs, SciELO, and The Cochrane Library from January 1980 to February 2014. Randomized controlled trials involving the study of some risk factors related to child language were included. Works with individuals who were not from the age group 0–12 years and presented no reliable definition of risk factors were excluded. The research findings were classified according to their theme and categorized methodological aspects. Results:We observed the lack of a standardized list of risk factors for language available for health professionals. The main risk factor mentioned was family dynamics, followed by interaction with parents, immediate social environment, and encouragement given to the child in the first years of life. It was also observed that organic hazards such as brain injury, persistent otitis media, and cardiac surgery, besides the type of food and parental counseling, may be related to language disorders. Conclusion:More randomized controlled trials involving the evaluation of risk factors for child language and the creation of further studies involving children above 6 years of age and males are needed.
