OBJETIVO: Conhecer a freqüência e a duração mediana das práticas de aleitamento materno em crianças de 0-24 meses no município de Ouro Preto, MG. MÉTODOS: Estudo epidemiológico tipo transversal em amostra estratificada de 229 crianças provenientes de 1.800 domicílios, visitados em 1996 e sorteados por conglomerado em três estágios. A freqüência e a duração mediana das práticas foram calculadas mediante tábua de vida. RESULTADOS: A duração mediana da amamentação foi de 198 dias, sendo de 71 dias para a amamentação exclusiva somada à predominante e 17 dias para a amamentação exclusiva. CONCLUSÃO: Embora a maioria das mães amamente seus filhos ao nascer, a introdução de outros alimentos ainda é bastante prematura, fato que justifica a necessidade de intervenções para prevenir o desmame parcial e/ou total precoce.

Human milk banks (HMBs) have difficulty maintaining and increasing their stocks, and the number of women enrolling as members remains low. The present qualitative study, based on social representation theory, aimed to understand women's representations of the milk donation experience. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted in 2013. In total, 12 women aged 18 to 39 years old participated in the study. Most were primiparous, married or living with a partner, housewives, completed high school, and belonged to lower economic classes. Four categories emerged from the testimonies: human milk donation; representations about human milk banks (HMB); the importance of breastfeeding for the baby and for one's conceptualization as a mother; and prenatal care and donation awareness. The main reasons for donating were representations that value breastfeeding, human milk, and the donation act. These mothers had difficulties donating, but the rewarding feeling, the value of this practice, and the support they received from people important to them helped with the donation. The findings related to the value of the donation and breastfeeding provide ways to effectively encourage and motivate potential donors, achieving comprehensive care starting from the prenatal period. Este é um estudo qualitativo embasado na teoria das representações sociais. Objetivou-se compreender representações de mulheres sobre a experiência da doação de leite. Foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas durante o ano de 2013. No total, 12 mulheres com idades entre 18 a 39 anos participaram do estudo. A maioria delas era primípara, casada ou vivia com o companheiro, não trabalhava fora de casa, tinha concluído o ensino médio e pertencia a classes econômicas baixas. Quatro categorias emergiram dos depoimentos: doação de leite humano; representações sobre o banco de leite humano; importância do aleitamento materno para o bebê e necessário para ser mãe; cuidados no pré-natal e conscientização da doação. As principais razões para doar relacionavam-se a representações que valorizavam a amamentação, o leite humano e o ato de doar. Essas mães tiveram dificuldades durante a doação, mas o sentimento gratificante, o valor dessa prática e o apoio de pessoas importantes ajudaram para a efetivação da doação. Os achados sobre o valor da doação e da amamentação fornecem subsídios para ações efetivas que motivem potenciais doadoras, possibilitando atenção integral desde a época do pré-natal. A Norma Brasileira de Comercialização de Alimentos para Lactentes e Crianças de Primeira Infância, Bicos, Chupetas e Mamadeiras (NBCAL), vigente no Brasil desde 1988, ainda é sistematicamente infringida, expondo mães e familiares ao marketing ilegal de produtos que competem com o aleitamento materno. O objetivo foi descrever metodologia de estudo multicêntrico e propor indicadores padronizados para monitoramento da NBCAL. Estudo Multicêntrico para Monitoramento da NBCAL (Multi-NBCAL) conduzido em sete cidades brasileiras: Rio de Janeiro; São Paulo; Ouro Preto (Minas Gerais); Florianópolis (Santa Catarina); Brasília (Distrito Federal); João Pessoa (Paraíba) e Belém (Pará). Instrumentos de avaliação foram adaptados do NetCode/WHO e da IBFAN Brasil (Rede Internacional em Defesa do Direito de Amamentar) para condução de dois inquéritos: (1) avaliação do cumprimento da NBCAL em estabelecimentos comerciais e das práticas e conhecimento dos seus gerentes sobre a NBCAL; (2) avaliação em maternidades da interação da indústria de alimentos infantis com profissionais de saúde e mães. Foram elaborados cinco indicadores para avaliação do cumprimento da NBCAL em estabelecimentos comerciais; sete indicadores para avaliar conhecimentos e práticas dos seus responsáveis; cinco indicadores para avaliar a oferta de incentivos a maternidades, profissionais de saúde e mães pelas indústrias e cinco indicadores para avaliar conhecimento e práticas de profissionais de saúde quanto à NBCAL. A metodologia de avaliação da NBCAL, com a proposta de indicadores padronizados, permite a comparabilidade de estudos sobre o tema. A utilização desses indicadores em inquéritos periódicos, nacionais ou regionais, pode contribuir para monitorar o grau de implementação da NBCAL no Brasil.

Pasteurization and freezing are processes used in human milk banks that can affect some of the nutritional and biological properties of human milk. The aim of this study was to evaluate impact of the processing steps adopted by human milk banks on the contents of total phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity in vitro. Experimental study was realized, in which 40 mL human milk were collected from 8 mothers registered at the Human Milk Bank of Ouro Preto, state of Minas Gerais. Samples were homogenized to form the pool. Human milk was divided into four portions that characterized the treatments: 1) immediately after milking; 2) pasteurization soon after the milking; 3) 7 days after freezing at -8.5 (± 2.8°C) and pasteurized; 4) 14 days after freezing at -8.5 (± 2.8°C) and pasteurized. The content of total phenolic compounds was determined, and the antioxidant capacity was assessed using the 2,2-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radicals scavenging. The results were expressed as mean and standard deviation of six replications. There was a positive correlation between the evaluated methods and reduction in total phenolic content and total antioxidant capacity with slow pasteurization and according to freezing time. There was a negative effect of pasteurization and freezing on the total phenolic content and total antioxidant capacity, and the most significant reduction was observed within the first 7 days of storage.

The consumption of white sesame has become a healthy option for those who are concerned about health and wish to reduce oxidative stress. The germination has been used an effective method to increase the nutrients availability and thus provide a better nutritional quality of these seeds. Due to the lack of researches about sesame germination the objective of this study was to evaluate the different times of germination on the chemical composition (moisture, fat, protein and ashes), the antioxidant capacity and the phenolic compounds of white sesame. The germination occurred inside a greenhouse with controlled temperature at 30 °C and the variables were analyzed in the times 0, 24, 36 and 48 hours of germination. The process increased the levels of moisture and reduced the levels of fat, protein and ashes. Dn the other hand, it also increased the antioxidant capacity by two methods and raised the quantity of total phenolic compounds. Based in the present study and in others similar works, it is possible to affirm that the germination process increase the white sesames' antioxidant capacity, however further studies are needed to evaluate a better environmental condition of germination and others factors that may affect the composition.Keywords: nutrients; phenolic compounds; antioxidant capacity; time.Practical Application: The germination of white sesame for 24, 36 and 48 hours increases its antioxidant capacity.

Resumo Introdução A doação de leite humano envolve valores sociais, conhecimento e organização, tanto para os profissionais de saúde como para as mães doadoras, tornando-se, assim, objeto complexo da atenção à saúde materno-infantil. Objetivo Buscou-se compreender representações de profissionais de saúde da atenção primária sobre a doação de leite humano. Método Esta é uma pesquisa qualitativa na qual foi adotada a teoria proposta por André Petitat sobre o dom. Foram entrevistados 12 profissionais, entre eles enfermeiros, médicos, nutricionistas e agentes comunitários de saúde. Como técnica de análise, adotou-se a análise estrutural da narrativa. Resultados Representações sobre leite humano como objeto de doação se relacionam com o valor nutricional e afetivo deste e com a importância do dom, de modo geral, na sociedade, para se valorizar ou não a prática. A maioria dos profissionais considera que o aconselhamento para doação deve acontecer apenas durante a amamentação, após verificar o excesso de produção láctea, numa representação utilitarista da doação. Representações de produção insuficiente de leite e de leite “fraco” persistem nas ações de cuidado, fazendo os profissionais se distanciarem do aconselhamento para a doação de leite nas oportunidades de criação de vínculo. Conclusão Educação para a saúde que considere a subjetividade dos profissionais e a complexidade dos atos de doar e de amamentar é fundamental para o incremento da doação aos bancos de leite.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effect of different times and freezing temperatures on the antioxidant activity of raw human milk (HM) and the impact of light by different packaging on retinol level and the antioxidant activity of pasteurized HM. Design/methodology/approach Donor milks were homogenized to form the pool of the experimental study characterized by the evaluation of the effects of time (0, 2, 4, 8 and 15 days) freezing temperatures (−3°C, −8°C and −18°C) and the interference of the type of packaging on the antioxidant activity and retinol levels of HM. Findings The existing studies do not reveal the real impact of HM storage conditions adopted by human milk banks (HMB) in Brazil on their compounds, mainly in relation to the effects of temperature and freezing time and the incidence of light on retinol levels and antioxidant activity. In view of the already documented importance of these compounds for the growth, development and health of children, it is extremely important to assess their stability according to the procedures adopted by the banks. It has been observed in this study that lower freezing temperatures (−18°C) further preserve the antioxidant activity. It was found that the amber and transparent vials wrapped with aluminum foil allowed for greater retinol stability of HM, with values of 2.501±0.757 µmol/L and 4.991±0.825 µmol/L, respectively. On the contrary, there was no significant influence on antioxidant activity. Originality/value It is suggested that HMB store milk at lower temperatures and use glass jars that block the passage of light.
