IntroduçãoEste artigo discute a relação entre moral, alteridade e violência, tendo como objeto de análise os sentimentos presentes em relatos de experiências de vitimização em uma modalidade específica da violência urbana: os assaltos a residências. Insere-se na área de investigação da antropologia das emoções, tomando como vertente teórica o "contextualismo" (Lutz & Abu-Lughod 1990), com sua ênfase na dimensão micropolítica das emoções.O universo analisado são as camadas médias do Rio de Janeiro. A metodologia utilizada é a entrevista em profundidade. Os dados são um conjunto de oito entrevistas realizadas com três casais que vivenciaram juntos, marido e mulher, experiências de assaltos às suas residências; e com duas mulheres que tiveram também suas residências assaltadas enquanto estavam em casa, em companhia de seus maridos e/ou filhos, empregados etc.1 Os três homens entrevistados têm 84, 55 e 43 anos; suas esposas têm, respectivamente, 85, 52, e 42 anos. As outras duas mulheres têm 66 e 50 anos. Todos têm filhos: o primeiro casal tem dez, o segundo tem dois e o terceiro tem um; as duas mulheres têm, cada qual, dois filhos. O primeiro casal reside em um bairro de camadas médias da zona norte da cidade, o segundo, na zona sul do Rio de Janeiro e o terceiro, na Barra da Tijuca. As duas mulheres residem em bairros da zona sul do Rio de Janeiro. Entre os homens, há um funcionário público aposentado, um engenheiro e um gerente de empresa multinacional; entre as mulheres, há três donas de casa, uma marchand e uma pequena empresária.O texto busca explorar a existência de uma narrativa-padrão nestas experiências, com foco na caracterização dos assaltantes e nos sentimentos por eles suscitados nos entrevistados. Este texto examina emoções relatadas em depoimentos de vítimas de assaltos a residências pertencentes às camadas médias do Rio de Janeiro. Insere-se na área de antropologia das emoções, adotando como perspectiva teórica, o "contextualismo" de Catherine Lutz e Lila Abu-Lughod. O ponto central desta perspectiva é a atenção voltada à capacidade micropolítica das emoções, tributárias de uma "gramática" social, sendo capazes, por isso, de dramatizar/alterar/reforçar aspectos "macro" da organização social que modelam as relações interpessoais. Os dados são um conjunto de entrevistas com casais que vivenciaram assaltos às suas residências. O objetivo é examinar as atitudes "prescritas" em seus relatos como "ideais" ou "eficazes" para lidar com a condição de vítima e sua relação com identidades de gênero. O foco da análise são as formas de "controle emocional" presentes em seus relatos, com ênfase na oposição entre o controle da raiva e o controle do medo.
Resumo Este artigo aborda o lugar das emoções na produção de conhecimento científico, com foco na área das ciências sociais. Trata-se de um texto de natureza bibliográfica composto de três seções. Na primeira, discute-se a existência de três momentos na reflexão sobre o lugar das emoções no fazer antropológico: a) como intrusas indesejáveis no trabalho de campo; b) como um incômodo com o qual se pode aprender sobre a natureza do trabalho de campo; c) como via de acesso para a compreensão da alteridade. A segunda seção aborda o papel da nostalgia e do pessimismo, respectivamente, nas disciplinas da antropologia e da sociologia, discutindo-os como molas propulsoras do desejo de conhecer. A terceira seção explora o lugar do amor no trabalho intelectual, tomando a história da relação entre Sidney e Beatrice Webb (narrada por Wolf Lepenies em seu livro As três culturas) como um conjunto de dados etnográficos.
Os campos da sociologia e da antropologia das emoções vêm conhecendo, desde os anos 1970 e 1980, respectivamente, um forte desenvolvimento na cena norte-americana. Diversos são os modelos teóricos propostos para a análise das emoções, tais como, na antropologia, o relativismo representado, entre outros, pelos primeiros trabalhos de Michelle Rosaldo (1984), Lila Abu-Lughod (1986) e Catherine Lutz (1988), baseados na noção de uma "construção cultural das emoções" ou, poucos anos depois, o contextualismo proposto por Lutz e Abu-Lughod (1990), cuja âncora teórica seria o conceito de "micropolítica das emoções", engendrado a partir da noção foucaultiana
