Sabidamente a desnutrição proteica nas fases iniciais da vida promove alterações anatomofisiológicas e funcionais em muitos sistemas orgânicos inclusive no sistema estomatognático, com especial atenção no sistema mastigatório. Neste trabalho foi avaliado se a suplementação com composto contendo nucleotídeos pode corroborar na manutenção de um equilíbrio homeostático das funções do sistema mastigatório. Foram utilizados ratos Wistar, inicialmente com 21 dias de vida que foram divididos em grupos experimentais (n=8) e denominados de Controle (tratados com dieta normoproteica: AN-14% durante 6 semanas); Controle tratados com composto contendo nucleotídeos marca Nucleocell durante 6 semanas; Desnutridos tratados com dieta hipoproteica (AN-6%) durante 6 semanas; Desnutridos tratados com dieta hipoproteica e composto contendo nucleotídeos da marca Nucleocell durante 6 semanas. Foram avaliados os seguintes itens: curva de ganho de massa (semanalmente) e no final das condições experimentais foram avaliadas as concentrações plasmáticas de albumina (A) e proteína total (PT), amostras do músculo masseter foram submetidas a avaliação histológica e foi determinada a concentração plasmática da interleucina TNF-α. Na análise estatística foi aplicado o teste de Kruska-Wallis, p<0,05. Os resultados mostraram que a suplementação não foi efetiva em minimizar as alterações do músculo masseter geradas pela restrição de proteína na dieta e também não interferiu na concentração plasmática da citocina TNF-α, imperando o comprometimento na dinâmica mastigatória imposta pela desnutrição.
