En este trabajo se analizan diversos aspectos de las ciudades celtas de Contrebia Belaisca y Nertobriga. En primer lugar, profundizamos en la organización administrativa y política de los belos, grupo celta cuya capitalidad estuvo en Contrebia, para estudiar después la significación religiosa de la palabra "Belaisca", relacionada con el dios Beli, comentando también tradiciones locales que se relacionan con esta divinidad. Pasamos después al análisis del entorno arqueológico y los datos históricos sobre Nertobriga, la relación del nombre de la ciudad con el dios celta Nerto, y tratamos especialmente el hallazgo de dos esculturas celtas de piedra representando cabezas.
El alfar de terra sigillata de Villarroya de la Sierra (Zaragoza) es conocido desde 1987, año en que se comenzó a excavar. Tras nueve campañas arqueológicas, sabemos muy bien cómo son los hornos, las producciones cerámicas, los moldes, e incluso hemos encontrado la necrópolis de los propietarios de este centro de producción. En 1999 hemos empezado a conocer su residencia, una lujosa mansión que ocupa 30.000 m con baños y pintura mural, todo lo cual indica que esta fue la villa de una poderosa familia romana, cuyo momento de esplendor fue desde mediados del siglo I d.C. al siglo III d.C., aunque el alfar siguió produciendo hasta el siglo IV d.C.
Se presentan aquí los planteamientos, metodología, equipos técnicos y resultados de la primera fase del proyecto para recuperar el archivo documental de la ciudad celta de Contrebia Belaisca. El descubrimiento de nuevos documentos escritos sobre soporte metálico, con un perfecto conocimiento de su contexto arqueológico, se considera un objetivo prioritario desde varios aspectos: la propia experimentación de la metodología y tecnología adecuadas, la vinculación de los documentos escritos a periodos o hechos históricos concretos, el avance en la investigación lingüística del celtíbero y el mayor conocimiento de elementos jurídicos y administrativos indígenas.
En este informe se recogen las conclusiones de los trabajos arqueológicos desarrollados en la ciudad celta y romana de Nertobriga durante el año 2001. Destaca el hallazgo de cerámica de la Edad del Bronce Medio en Cabezo Chinchón, lo que indica la temprana población del lugar, que perdura hasta la Edad del Hierro. En la zona romana (Puyrredondo), lo principal es el descubrimiento de instalaciones dedicadas a la utilización del agua y, probablemente, su calentamiento, de los siglos I y II d.C. Una de ellas es de grandes dimensiones y, por tanto, de carácter público.
El balneario romano de Fitero, del cual se conservan el castellum aquae y un alueus, tuvo unas instalaciones mucho más complejas que se han ido destruyendo a lo largo de los siglos XIX y XX. Aquí presentamos una reconstrucción del conjunto termal basada en todos los datos recopilados, incluyendo unas fotografías recuperadas recientemente de las obras del año 1982, en las que se pusieron a la luz bastantes elementos romanos.
