La Haute-Normandie présente plusieurs désavantages concernant la prise en charge bucco-dentaire des personnes en situation de handicap : une démographie médicale sinistrée, l’absence de faculté dentaire et de réseaux de soins odontologiques. Une enquête épidémiologique transversale a été réalisée entre novembre 2014 et février 2015 auprès de la cohorte des chirurgiens-dentistes de cette région à l’aide d’un questionnaire. Les thématiques abordées dans ce questionnaire portaient, d’une part, sur l’accessibilité et la mise aux normes des cabinets dentaires ainsi que sur les facteurs d’influence freinant leur mise en accessibilité, et, d’autre part, sur la prise en charge des patients porteurs de handicap par les praticiens de cette région : impact des mesures incitatives, facteurs d’influence compliquant la prise en charge et recours à des correspondants de structures privées et publiques. Si la prise en charge du handicap concerne l’immense majorité des praticiens, nous relevons une appréhension chez ces derniers à adapter leurs protocoles de soins à cette patientèle spécifique. Les attentes des chirurgiens-dentistes dans le domaine du handicap sont multiples : création de réseaux spécifiques de soins, meilleure coordination des acteurs médicaux et sociaux, mise en place de formations spécifiques concernant la prise en charge des patients porteurs de handicap.
