La investigación presentada en este artículo se propone, ante la diversidad lingüística del alumnado de muchos centros escolares catalanes, estudiar el pensamiento y las actuaciones del profesorado de lenguas en las nuevas situaciones plurilingües. El grupo PLURAL investiga los sistemas de creencias, representaciones y saberes (CRS) de los docentes, así como su posible transformación, a pesar de las resistencias opuestas por la permanencia de modelos tradicionales, para fundamentar la revisión de los actuales dispositivos y contenidos de formación. Para ello, se ha contado con la colaboración de ocho profesores de diferentes lenguas y etapas educativas, a quienes se ha entrevistado individualmente y observado en actuaciones de aula sobre las que se ha debatido y reflexionado en grupo. En el artículo se presentan ejemplos de análisis de transcripciones, ofreciendo el caso de una profesora de secundaria encargada de atender grupos de alumnos con dificultades. Entendemos que los CRS emergen a partir del análisis de las interacciones y del discurso de los docentes. Se presenta finalmente una síntesis de los aspectos más relevantes para mejorar el desarrollo profesional del profesorado. Las clases se caracterizan por ser un contexto en construcción, con determinadas peculiaridades respecto a otras interacciones sociales especializadas.Las opciones metodológicas de investigación en el aula que se presentan son cualitativas y se inspiran no sólo en la investigación educativa y en las ciencias sociales, sino también en las nuevas corrientes de las ciencias del lenguaje. Se detallan los procedimientos de recogida de datos y de su análisis, basado en el análisis conversacional.Se da luego cuenta de las aportaciones de los estudios interaccionistas sobre la relación entre interacción y adquisición: las diferencias entre los formatos clásicos, centrados en el profesor, y otros formatos caracterizados por la corresponsabilidad de los alumnos en el desarrollo de la interacción; los fenómenos interactivos y las estrategias conversacionales favorecedores de la adquisición; el potencial de aprendizaje de determinadas secuencias de negociación y la reflexión sobre los recursos lingüísticos.Se introduce también el tema del plurilingüismo como novedad específica de los contextos educativos, en los que la complementariedad y la transversalidad del estudio de las diferentes variedades lingüísticas en contacto aparecen como una apuesta crucial para el futuro. Finalmente, se pone de relieve la especial relevancia de este tipo de investigación para los profesores.
