Resumo Inspirado por Martha Nussbaum e tomando como referência a ideia formativa inerente à ascese amorosa, o artigo investiga o significado atribuído a Eros por Platão em O banquete. Primeiro, reconstruímos o discurso de Aristófanes, enfatizando o aspecto de dupla comédia da vida humana. Depois, analisamos o caráter formativo do discurso de Diotima em termos de um duplo ensinamento: o da sacerdotisa a Sócrates e o de Sócrates a nós. Em seguida, indicamos o quanto a dialética do amor, ao ter que responder à objeção de Alcibíades, conduz à mudança da postura de Sócrates à medida que a presença de Alcibíades o faz retornar ao mundo sensível. Por fim, destacamos a dimensão formativa da ascese do amor e da reversibilidade de papéis entre erasta e erômeno, amante e amado.
O presente livro discute o utilitarismo que avança sobre a educação contemporânea, a partir de uma revisão teórica da tradição filosófico-pedagógica que entende a educação como processo de formação que se apoia em saberes que valem por si, não reduzindo-os à saberes de imediata utilidade econômica. Nessa revisão, elegemos seis tópicos de análise, os quais correspondem aos capítulos: 1. Paideia grega; 2. Humanitas latina; 3. Bildung moderna; 4. Formação omnilateral em Karl Marx; 5. Habermas e a reconstrução comunicativa do ideal de formação humana; 6. Skholé e formação humana. A professora Nadja Hermann faz a Apresentação da obra, um dos resultados do projeto de pesquisa de pós-doutorado “Educação como processo de formação humana e a premência da utilidade”, desenvolvido por Vicente Zatti no Departamento de Filosofia da Educação e Ciências da Educação da Faculdade de Educação da USP, sob supervisão de Marcos Sidnei Pagotto-Euzebio.
A XIII Semana de Estudos Clássicos da FEUSP, evento realizado em 2016, organizado pelos professores Alessandra Carbonero Lima e Marcos Sidnei Pagotto-Euzebio trouxe como tema "Os Outros, os Mesmos: a alteridade no mundo antigo", possibilitando discutir-se a questão das diferenças a partir de algumas indagações: Quem é esse outro? Como lidar com ele? De que modo esse outro colabora na constituição do que somos? A partir dessas questões, professores e pesquisadores convidados elaboraram sua contribuição, pensando nas conexões entre o tema proposto com a educação e com o nosso tempo. Parte dessas comunicações geraram os textos reunidos nessa coletânea, acrescida de um capítulo escrito por Marcos Beccari (UFPR), que também assina o projeto gráfico desse livro.
