Palavras-chave valor de uso, valor de troca, trabalho, informação, internet, "jardins murados" Political economy of information and communication in the internet era: revisiting value theory in networks and in entertainmentAbstract the pillar of Political Economy theory is the theory of labor value. Contemporary capitalism has subjected this theory to theoretical and practical challenges because, under current production conditions, the exchange value was being emptied, subsisting use value. The text seeks to show that understanding of these problems can be at the core concerns of the Political Economy of Information, Communication and Culture (PEICC), since its subject is the process of work and valorization in the media, the production of entertanment, and now also on the Internet.
OS SIGNIFICADOS DO TRABALHO: PRODUÇÃO DE VALORES COMO PRODUÇÃO SEMIÓTICA NO CAPITALISMO INFORMACIONAL THE MEANING OF LABOUR: THE PRODUCTION OF VALUES AS A SEMIOTIC PRODUCTION IN INFORMATIONAL CAPITALISM Marcos Dantas 1Abs tract In advanced capitalism, in all industries the labour process has become essentially semiotic, that is, in all steps of the productive chain, from engineering to machine adjustment and control, workers are employed to process information to which they can attribute meanings related to concrete labour situations. Understanding this process helps to understand the Marxian concept of concrete labour and can contribute to a better understanding of the nature of the informational capitalism that has been emerging in the beginning of this century.
Apresentação
This article suggests an approach to Marx's capital valorisation theory supported by a dialectical information theory as developed by physicians, biologists and also communication theorists during the second half of the 20th century. It suggests that it is possible to link the basic concepts of information, as science has established them, to Marx's basic concepts of capital. Based on this foundation, this article also tries to explain how capital, in its development, has evolved to discharge redundant or repetitive jobs but has become increasingly dependent on random or creative ones. Because of this circumstance, in its present stage, the capitalist production process creates value in many concrete forms of semiotic information. Because information cannot be reduced to the status of a commodity, as the theory explains, capitalist states and corporations are improving and hardening intellectual property laws in order to appropriate the information value created by "creative" or "artistic" work. Keywords:Value, information, negentropy, communication, capital, Marx, random work, redundant labour, informational rents.
