Andrade DFR, Sousa MAS, Silva HMG et al. ABSTRACT Objectives: evaluate the prevalent fungal genera in themicrobiotaon the air conditioners in intensive care units (ICUs) and surgical centers and which diseases related to them. Method:it was performed a literature review in virtual databases such as the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Medline, using texts published in full, online, from 2004 to 2014, in any language. Results: the analysis allowed the verification of high prevalence to various genera of fungi in ICUs. There was a predominance of five genera: Aspergillus, Fusarium, Penicillium, Cladosporium and Curvularia; these fungi are the main responsible for diseases, such as allergic bronchitis, lung infections, otitis and fungal sinusitis. Conclusion: due to the presence of these fungal species and its potential pathogenicity, it is indispensable to clean the air conditioners in surgical and ICU centers, since the immune status in patients hospitalized can facilitate secondary infections promoted by these genera. Descriptos: microbiota; fungus; air conditioners; intensive care unit; surgery centers. Objective: to investigate the epidemiological profile of hospital infections acquired in the Intensive Care Unit of a reference hospital in the Northeast. Methods: This is a descriptive, prospective data collection study carried out in two adult intensive care units of a general hospital and teaching hospital. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire. Results: Among the participants, there was a predominance of females and of the age group comprising young adults and married. All patients underwent at least one type of invasive procedure, with nasogastric probe and bladder catheterization being the most prevalent. Respiratory tract infection was the most prevalent (66.7%) among the total number of infections. Attention is also drawn to the high rates of urinary tract infection (45.8%) and bloodstream infection (15.8%). Conclusion: Respiratory tract infection is the main infectious topography in the hospital environment.
IntroductionThe prevalence of hepatitis B is higher in populations at risk, such as people living on the street. This population is more vulnerable to several diseases, such as hepatitis B, which can be prevented by adhering to the three-dose schedule of hepatitis B vaccine. The main goal was to investigate the vaccination situation against hepatitis B in this kind of population.MethodsCross-sectional study with quantitative approach. The research was developed at the Specialised Reference Centre for Homeless People (POP Centre). Participants were recruited through the Snowball Technique. The data were collected through the application of a form, from September to December 2016. This study was submitted and approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Piauí with the number of report 1,755,893.ResultsOf the 58 participants, the majority, 49 (84.5%) were males. The age ranged from 21 to over 50 years old. Regarding sexual behaviour, 7 (12.1%) participants reported feeling same-sex attraction. Only 3 (5.2%) reported having a monogamous partner, and among these, 2 (3.4%) reported not using condoms with the aforementioned partner. Only 11 (19.0%) participants had a vaccine card. Of the total, 35 (60.3%) did not know how to report their vaccination status. Of the doses of hepatitis B vaccine given previously, 3 (5.2%) reported having taken two doses of vaccine. The remainder, 15 (35.9%), had not taken any dose of the vaccine. Only 3 (5.2%) reported having completed the vaccination schedule.ConclusionConsidering the low adherence to the three doses of vaccine against Hepatitis B, it is important to invest in the continuous supply of immunobiological and to expand orientation strategies regarding the importance of the complete vaccination scheme for this population.
