This paper describes version 2 of the NuSMV tool. NuSMV is a symbolic model\ud
checker originated from the reengineering, reimplementation and extension of\ud
SMV, the original BDD-based model checker developed at CMU. The Nu-\ud
SMV project aims at the development of a state-of-the-art symbolic model\ud
checker, designed to be applicable in technology transfer projects: it is a well\ud
structured, open, flexible and documented platform for model checking, and is\ud
robust and close to industrial systems standards
The run-time monitoring of web service compositions has been widely acknowledged as a significant and challenging problem. In this paper, we propose a novel solution to the problem of monitoring web services implemented in BPEL. We devise an architecture that clearly separates the business logic of a web service from its monitoring functionality. The architecture supports both "instance monitors" that deal with the execution of a single instance of BPEL process, as well as "class monitors" that report aggregated information about all the instances of a BPEL process. We also define a language for the specification of instance and class monitors. The language allows for specifying boolean, statistic, and time-related properties. Abstract. The ability to automatically compose web services, and to monitor their execution, is an essential step to substantially decrease time and costs in the development, integration, and maintenance of complex services. In this paper, we exploit techniques based on the "Planning as Model Checking" approach to automatically compose web services and synthesize monitoring components. By relying on such a flexible technology, we are able to deal with the difficulties stemming from the unpredictability of external partner services, the opaqueness of their internal status, and the presence of complex behavioral requirements. We test our approach on a simple, yet realistic example; the results provide a witness to the potentiality of this approach.
