Problematic Internet Use (PIU) is a broad term that covers problems with Internet use that result in psychological, social, academic or professional difficulties. The aim of our study was to identify individuals particularly vulnerable to developing PIU among Polish students, taking into account sociodemographic characteristics and Internet use patterns. A total of 1008 students of Polish universities took part in the survey. The research tool was The Problematic Internet Use Test—the Polish version of the Internet Addiction Test. Among the respondents, 10.2% showed signs of PIU—high or very high risk of addiction. Significantly higher levels of PIU were found in males than females, science students than medical and humanities students, and Internet users using a computer, as opposed to students using only a phone/tablet. A decrease in PIU was observed as students improved their assessment of their material situation. The severity of PIU increased significantly as the importance of Internet use for entertainment increased. Our research indicates that it is worth implementing measures to prevent the development of PIU in Poland, e.g., screening educational campaigns, especially for science students. It is also necessary to offer students at lower levels of education, especially the less affluent, forms of leisure time other than computer activity with the use of the Internet.
SUMMARYThe aim of this study was to show the evolution of the paradigm of disability associated with the scientific discourse, but also social and cultural changes. The problem of people with disabilities has existed since the beginnings of civilization, and with its development the concept of disability has also evolved. The individual problems of a patient have, over time, been treated as a medical problem associated with the disease, including its effects on physical and mental health. After World War II there were significant changes in the perception of disability and disabled people, which was associated with the rise of medical sociology and the emergence of new descriptions of diseases. New discourse on people with disabilities meant that they began to participate more frequently in public debate. This, in turn, had an impact on the attitudes of society and social policy towards people with disabilities. The model of disability evolved, and disability was finally treated as a social problem with an impact on the functioning of the whole society.
Ensuring equality in the healthcare system means that socioeconomic factors such as economic status, age, education, or place of residence should not affect the quality, timeliness and availability of healthcare for which the patient is covered. This recognizes that every citizen has the right to healthcare. This right might be mentioned both in general acts as well as legislation regulating the operation of healthcare systems. All systems of inancial constraints mean that meeting the demand for healthcare becomes possible only to a limited degree. This is the reason for systemic reforms. These reforms are especially needed in countries that allocate a relatively small fraction of public funds to healthcare, including Poland. With the restrictions in access to healthcare it becomes necessary to increase spending by private funds. Depending on the individual system solutions, these measures may be included in the public sector (a system of subsidies or insurance) or operate in the private sector. Private funds therefore have an impact on the conditions of access to healthcare. The practical operation of healthcare systems puts the claimed equality into question. Keywords: healthcare system; healthcare providers; availability; public funds. POJĘCIE RÓWNOŚCIOchrona zdrowia obejmująca opiekę zdrowotną i działania w ramach zdrowia publicznego stała się istotnym elementem polityki społecznej realizowanej w poszczególnych krajach w XX w.
Introduction: Health care personnel: nurses, midwives and paramedics provide their work on the basis of different forms of employment: employment contract under labour law, private practice, or a contract under civil law. The aim of the study was to investigate the preferences of these professionals in the field of the most desired forms of employment, and to examine whether personnel perform work in their preferred form, as well as knowledge of the factors affecting these preferences. Materials and methods:The study involved 202 people performing work in medical professions. There were 128 nurses, 42 midwives and 32 paramedics. The study used a questionnaire that allowed the author to achieve the objectives of the research. Results: Both among health professionals working in the medical entities under an employment contract, as well as running their private practice and employed on the basis of the so-called contract, there was a statistical relationship between the actual and preferred form of employment. In both groups, the majority of workers intended to continue the current form of employment, with a much larger percentage of respondents among those employed under a contract of employment (statistical significance p < 0.000001). Conclusions:The majority of respondents prefer to work based on the contract of employment. The reasons explaining this preference were the protection of employment under labour law, and social benefits. Those preferring self-employment were motivated by the opportunity to obtain higher incomes. Health care professionals should be ensured genuine freedom to choose the type of employment according to their preferences. Keywords: health care employees; employment contract; the contract; protection of employment; social benefits.
