Examina as condições de saúde de uma população de escravos fugidos, com base em anúncios publicados no Jornal do Commercio do Rio de Janeiro durante o ano de 1850. Para tanto, analisa as características físicas dos escravos, conforme descrição de seus senhores e, considerando a saúde do escravo, examina os problemas físicos que cada um possuía, de acordo com o saber médico ou popular da época. Essas evidências podem ser relacionadas com procedimentos ligados ao próprio sistema escravista, que privilegiava a máxima utilização dos cativos.
O presente trabalho parte da constatação da natureza relativamente anódina dos estudos acerca dos quilombos em sociedades escravistas nas Américas, os quais não raro juntam em uma única categoria (quilombos, cumbes, palenques, mainels etc.) estruturas que podiam englobar menos de uma dezena de fugitivos e durar semanas ou meses, ou, como no caso de Palmares, congregar até 11 mil quilombolas e persistir por quase um século. Semelhante anomalia conceitual revela a falta de taxonomias que encarem os quilombos como estruturas efetivamente históricas, que podiam circunscrever-se a meras hordas ou evoluir para a condição de comunidades autossustentáveis e, pois, capazes de se autorreproduzir econômica e demograficamente por longos períodos nas Américas.
Este artigo busca analisar as diferentes imagens que foram criadas sobre os índios em Minas Gerais demonstrando que, na maioria das vezes, determinados grupamentos indígenas foram associados às feras. Assim, todas as medidas repressivas contra suas aldeias eram justificadas, inclusive, as Guerras Justas. O artigo analisa também alguns documentos sobre a escravidão indígena na região até pelo menos, o século XIX.
Mucho se ha producido sobre las diferentes actuaciones de los ignacianos en la América lusitana y los diversos motivos de su expulsión. Sin embargo, se le ha dado poca importancia al análisis de fuentes que retraten los aspectos económicos de la orden, que fueron utilizados como justificaciones en 1759. El objetivo del artículo fue reflexionar sobre el poderío económico de los padres de la Compañía de Jesús, de modo de verificar la existencia de ese poder financiero y, asimismo, cómo actuaba en el sentido de dar mayor jurisdicción a los religiosos.
