Objective:The aim of this paper is to understand the experience of smokers in view of unsuccessful attempts to quit smoking. Method: This study is based on social phenomenology. Between November and December of 2014, nine interviews were conducted with people that had attempted to quit smoking. The content of these interviews was analyzed and discussed based on the related literature. Results: Unsuccessful attempts to quit smoking are related to tobacco addiction; cigarettes are seen as a support to cope with everyday stressful situations. Attempts to quit the smoking habits were based on the need of health improvement and insistence of family and friends. Smokers reported the use of habit cessation strategies learned in support groups, but they also express expectation of specialized psychological support. Conclusion: The study points out the need to expand the strategies of approaching smokers, and reinforcing psychological support in order to achieve success in the attempt to quit smoking.
Objective:To understand the life experience of homeless women. Method: A social phenomenological study was conducted with 10 women assisted by a shelter. The analysis of the interviews was based on the theoretical framework of social phenomenology of Alfred Schütz and thematic literature. Results: The participants face adversities in the street context, with emphasis on the risk of physical and sexual abuse, and seek shelters as a possibility for minimizing difficulties experienced. They hope to leave the streets; however, they see themselves trapped in this social reality, due to the addiction to alcohol and other drugs. Conclusion: The understanding of the life experience of homeless women shows daily confrontations and reveals the conflict between the desire for leaving and remaining on the streets, given the complexity of the reality that keeps them in this condition. Limits and possibilities experienced by nurses in the treatment of women with chronic venous ulcers INTRODUCTIONChronic venous ulceration (CVU) is the largest therapeutic problem involving lesions of the lower limb (1) , being more prevalent in women over 65 years of age (2) . The occurrence of this disease can trigger several changes in women's routines, requiring that they change their habits and lifestyle. In addition to pain and inability to perform certain tasks, a deficit in self-esteem occurs, compounded by female vanity and standards of beauty set by society (3) . These considerations show that the gender issue should be considered when providing care to people with CVU, with women deserving a particular type of attention from professionals who attend to them. It is in this context that nurses are inserted; their training emphasizes the care of people with wounds, placing them in situation different from that of other healthcare professionals (4) .Primary health care (PHC) is a scenario in which the care of chronic wounds is part of the daily lives of nurses, with a considerable amount of time allocated towards assisting people with CVU (5) . Studies in Sweden showed nurses' experiences in the treatment of wounds in the context of PHC and emphasize the challenges of providing care for these lesions, considering the complicating factors that overlap with this care (6)(7) .A study of health professionals in the United Kingdom and the United States revealed that care for people with CVU is often accompanied by frustration and dissatisfaction because of the uncertain outcomes of treatment. The professionals in that study attributed nonadherence to treatment by people with CVU to factors such as non-cooperation and lack of motivation to follow through with the therapy. Furthermore, there was evidence of limitations of time and/or knowledge on the part of nurses, which prevents them from elaborating on effective strategies for adherence to treatment (8) .Adherence to the lifestyle required for people with CVU can be influenced by the trusting relationship established between patients and nurses (9)(10) . Therefore, it is assumed that the relationship of care, mediated by trust between the individuals involved, constitutes an important instrument of adherence of women to treatment proposed by nurses. From these considerations, the following questions guided this study: How do nurses provide care to women with chronic venous ulcers? What are the expectations of nurses when providing care to women with CVU? Therefore, we established as the objective, to understand the experiences and expectations of nurses when providing care to women with CVU in the PHC context. The reflection on the reality experienced by nurses in caring for women with CVU may contribute to nursing knowledge in relation to the work performed by the profession, with the objective being to improve the quality of care for these patients. METHODThis qualitative study was based on the theoretical and methodological framework of social phenomenology o...
it is important to discuss the results of the present study in the context of health care and especially nursing education, with the goal of better preparing nurses who will deliver care at the primary health care level.
Objectives: To understand the actions of nurses toward obesity in primary health care units. Methods: A phenomenological study was carried out with 12 nurses of a city in the state of Minas Gerais. The interviews were organized into categories and analyzed according to the social phenomenology of Alfred Schütz and literature associated with the theme. Results: The following categories emerged, expressing the actions of nurses toward obesity prevention and control: “Guidance on healthy lifestyle habits”, “Barriers to the actions of nurses”, and “Focusing specifically on obesity”. Final considerations: Considering that guidance on healthy lifestyle habits was mostly carried out during individual and collective activities directed to the general population, regardless of their weight conditions, nurses must reorganize their professional practice in primary health care units by implementing specific actions for users with obesity or at risk of developing it.
Objective:To understand the experience of former smokers maintaining tobacco withdrawal. Methods: Qualitative research that used the theoretical and methodological reference of social phenomenology as defined by Alfred Schütz. The phenomenological interview was carried out in 2016 with 12 former smokers from a city in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The statements were organized into categories and discussed based on the literature. Results: The maintenance of tobacco withdrawal was revealed in the categories: "Health, sociability, and financial gains"; "Living with the urge to smoke and with the increase of body weight"; "Self-determination and use of replacement strategies"; and "Staying away from cigarettes. " Conclusions: These results alert health professionals to the need to provide support to former smokers so that they can remain smoke-free. In addition to the negative effects of smoking withdrawal, this implies considering the social context in which former smokers are inserted that might have an impact on the maintenance or not of cigarette withdrawal. Objective: To understand the daily actions of women who have experienced sexual violence. Method: A qualitative study was conducted with 11 women who suffered sexual violence in southern Brazil. Their testimonies were obtained through phenomenological interviews conducted between October 2014 and April 2015. Results: The daily lives of women after suffering sexual violence were permeated by mental distress, translated into fear. This impacted their mental health by limiting their daily lives, especially social activities (work, school, sentimental, and sexual relations). To overcome the consequences of sexual violence, women sought support from family and friends and reintegration into the labor market and course of studies. Conclusion and implications for practice: Individual and group actions providing psychosocial and social support to women in situations of sexual violence are essential to help victims cope with the consequences of this experience.
