El presente trabajo expone el marco teórico-conceptual de un estudio epidemiológico de una población infantil. La Organización Mundial de la Salud estima que una quinta parte de los niños y niñas a nivel mundial, sufren algún padecimiento de salud mental. Nuestro país cuenta con escasos estudios epidemiológicos en la materia, y son casi inexistentes los datos confiables a nivel nacional. Asimismo, se observan extendidas situaciones de maltrato y de violencia sexual, registrándose una marcada diferencia por según el género. Las Estas diferencias de género se observan también en las manifestaciones clínicas sintomáticas: los varones suelen presentar síntomas más “desadaptativos” para el entorno que las niñas, quienes muestran frecuentemente signos presentan frecuentemente síntomas de ansiedad o depresión que resultan inadvertidos. Por este motivo las niñas son derivadas a la consulta en mucha menor medida que los varones, o sólo tardíamente. La pronta detección del padecimiento psíquico en la niñez permitirá realizar intervenciones psicológicas tempranas y preventivas.
Se presentan los avances de un proyecto de investigación que indaga el fenómeno del duelo en la “hipermodernidad”. Se revisan conceptos relacionados con la teoría del duelo en la obra de Freud. Se indaga sobre el papel del examen de realidad en los inicios del duelo y su relación con la desmentida (Verleugnung). Se analiza el estatuto del objeto perdido, y por tanto se reconsidera la noción freudiana de amor. Asimismo, se indaga sobre el concepto de “trabajo de duelo” y la sustitución del objeto como resultado. Se observa una articulación entre el funcionamiento intrapsíquico y las significaciones culturales de nuestra época, ya no signada por la represión, sino por la desmentida del dolor y las pérdidas.
