Process of formation of the cyclonic vortex of middle levels in the continental region and associated phenomena A B S T R A C T Knowledge of large-scale systems and their relationship to adverse phenomena is important for weather forecasting. The Middle Tropospheric Cyclonic Vortex (MTCV) was recently discovered and there is not enough yet information about these systems. The analysis of MTCVs the structure and processes of VCMN formation in the continental region was the principal goal of the present study. Data were obtained from the Terrestrial Systems Research Laboratory (NCEP / NOAA / NCAR) and from the ERA Project European Center for Medium-Term Forecasting (ECMWF). Precipitation data were obtained from the CHIRPS project. The structure, vertical movements and formation processes were analyzed. Eight events were identified in the continental region during the year 2017. MTCV were located at the 700hPa level and were deeper (up to 600hPa) at two events. The vortices persisting was on average 12 hours and maximum of 30 hours. One MTCV event with typical process of formation is considered in detail. The MTCV were formed below the warm wave and above the weak baroclinic zone. The vorticity was weak in all cases between-1 and-3x10-5 s-1. The vertical movements were predominantly descending. The dry conditions in the VCMN were confirmed by vertical sections and humidity maps from vortex formation to dissipation. Low-level clouds were observed throughout the life of the vortex. The precipitations occurred in the typical event...
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
