PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to develop a new maturity model to identify the current state of maintenance area of organizations and drives actions to increase efficiency and effectiveness toward the concept known as world-class.Design/methodology/approachThe model was developed based on an extensive literature review on maintenance management and maturity assessment, which allowed identifying the relevant factors in maintenance management and the world-class behaviors for each factor. The progressive maturity levels for each of the identified ten factors form the model. To test its effectiveness, it was applied to the maintenance area of three companies.FindingsThe model application showed that, in addition to being a self-assessment tool, it provides knowledge, to those who use it, on behaviors or practices that enable world-class results. For each factor, potential gaps and the desired state were defined focusing on behaviors rather than on indicators values or adopted methodologies, which facilitates the identification of improvement actions that lead to better performance.Research limitations/implicationsThrough its use, maturity levels can be identified for all considered maintenance management factors, however, the overall maturity of the maintenance area is not determined. Although this overall evaluation can be done assigning a weight to each factor, it was not considered an added value for the set purpose.Originality/valueThe proposed maturity model contributes to the understanding of the maintenance management process and how to stand out nowadays in an area that has an increasingly important impact on productivity and quality.
Strategic Planning is one of the management tools most used by institutions that seeks to translate the organization's strategy, define its strategic objectives, identify the main existing bottlenecks and anticipate changes. The indicators are allies of planning and fundamental to the control of processes, because they make it possible to monitor goals, correct problems and propose alternatives for solving possible problems. Therefore, this research consists of verifying the actions outlined in strategic planning in the public sector, using the balanced scorecard tool. For that, a systematic literature review was used as the methodological procedure as the main theme the use of the BSC as a strategic management tool in the public sector. Around 2.003 articles relevant to the proposed theme were identified, selected from 2015-2020, of which 11 deal directly with the use of the BSC. As a result, the survey found the concern that public organizations have been demonstrating in perfecting their strategic plans by adapting the BSC to the reality of the public sector so that they provide better services to society.
The objective of this paper is to analyze the excess of failures in a mobile phone line production in order to make process improvements in a factory of the industrial pole of Manaus (PIM) by using FMEA methodology (Failure Mode, effect analysis). The excess of failures was an extremely influential aggravating factor by its customer, since the increase of the productive capacity in the company would be determined by the reduction of the percentage of failures or increase of YIELD from the conception of the product until the final phase of its life. Tracing the root causes is an important step in improving manufacturing processes for reducing failures. The impact of this is the reduction in industrial costs and an increase in the quality index of the product, ensuring customer satisfaction in having to produce its product in a factory that operates under condition the EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services).
With the emergence of a pandemic in the world caused by the new coronavirus (COVID-19), many companies closed doors because of the lack of capital to maintain operational performance. Still, others reinvented and adapted themselves during this problem. The impact was no different on the industries, mainly on their supply chain, on inventories, and production rates, whether they are small, medium, or large. The fact is that no one left unscathed as a result of this pandemic. The general objective of this study was to present the impact on the supply chain in the hospital environment in the interior of the Amazonas state, which has an entirely different logistics arrangement from anywhere in the world. The results indicate that the proper functioning of the hospital system is directly related to the capacity to supply adequate materials that guarantee the execution of procedures with quality and higher patient satisfaction.
The process of research, development and innovation (RD&I) is very important for the technological growth of a nation. Because they are activities with a considerable level of uncertainty, they require a lot of planning, with the execution of projects and a robust risk management. In the Western Amazon is one of the largest industrial parks in Brazil, subsidized by tax benefits from Law No. 8,387 / 1991, which also establishes the obligation for companies that manufacture computer goods to allocate part of their revenue for the implementation of projects of Research and Development. Studies show that the results of RD&I activities carried out in the Western Amazon, as well as in Brazil, are deficient. Thus, this work aimed to present a risk management model that can contribute to a better management of processes related to RD&I in the Western Amazon. The methodology consisted of a scientific research of applied nature, whose data were collected through bibliographic, documentary and case study research, and later they were analyzed in a qualitative way. It was concluded that the risk management model presented here is a practical manual composed of a detailed procedural rite of great value for managers who want to implement a risk management program in their organizations and, specifically in the case of SUFRAMA, represents a support instrument to guide the management of risks inherent to RD&I activities developed in the Western Amazon, enhancing its results and contributing to expand the technological development of the region.
