The modular multilevel battery (M2B) is a novel approach to integrate battery storage into the electricity grid. This paper obtains the efficiency a nd fi nancial be nefits of a working prototype system, compared to conventional systems for frequency containment reserve (FCR). The efficiency i s determined with a low-level simulation that models the conduction losses on the circuit, the MOSFETs' switching and conduction losses, and the system consumption. The simulation model shows, that the efficiency i s s uperior t o c onventional i nverters over the entire operating range. The operation for FCR shows a cost-reduction of 50 % for transactions on the intraday market, resulting in a 72.9 % higher net-profit after 10 years.
Network management systems have to handle a huge volume of notifications reporting unprompted on events in the network. Filters that reduce this information flood on a per-notification basis fail to perform adequate information preprocessing required by management application software or human operators. Our concept of intelligent filtering allows for a highly flexible correlation of several notifications: Secondary notifications can be suppressed or a number of notifications can be aggregated. An intelligent filter was implemented using a rulebased language and was applied within SDH network management. Several modules, configurable while the filter is operating, support the user considerably and with excellent runtime performance. Further development is envisaged that provides for smooth integration into management application software.
This paper presents an architecture for integrated management of all resources in a networked system. Looking at the OS1 Management Framework, the need for a distributed management information model is identified which incorporates management activity. The Architecture is then presented in terms of a management model, structuring principles for management systems and the description of a federated object-oriented system specially suited for management system's realization.
