L’article a pour objectif de présenter les résultats obtenus à la suite d’une recherche collaborative menée auprès de huit enseignants d’histoire de deuxième cycle du secondaire de la Commission scolaire du Pays-des-Bleuets pendant l’année scolaire 2014-2015. L’observation d’un faible taux de réussite des élèves de la Commission scolaire (CS) à l’épreuve unique d’histoire de quatrième secondaire, comparativement aux autres CS de la province, est à l’origine de ce projet financé par le Consortium régional de recherche en éducation (CRRE) (Duquette, Lauzon et St-Gelais,, 2016). D’une durée d’un an, le projet visait à mieux comprendre les forces et les faiblesses des élèves pour ensuite développer, avec l’équipe enseignante, des stratégies didactiques adaptées. À la suite de l’analyse de 195 copies d’épreuve unique de juin 2014, nous avons dégagé que la principale faiblesse des élèves était leur difficulté à travailler avec le dossier documentaire : un assemblage de sources historiques permettant de répondre aux questions de l’épreuve. Le texte que nous proposons fera état de l’évolution des stratégies didactiques développées par les enseignants lors de trois communautés d’apprentissage afin de familiariser les élèves à l’analyse des sources documentaires. Nous mettrons également en lumière l’importance de la collaboration entre l’équipe de chercheurs et l’équipe enseignante tant pour parvenir à une réelle transformation des pratiques que pour améliorer nos connaissances en didactique de l’histoire.
Au Québec, pour obtenir leur diplôme d’études secondaires, les élèves doivent réussir le cours d’histoire du Québec et du Canada (MELS, 2003). Pour y parvenir, il est essentiel non seulement d’obtenir la note de passage dans le cours d’histoire de 4e secondaire, mais également de réussir l’épreuve unique, un examen certificatif qui compte pour 50 % de la note globale de l’élève (MEES, 2017a). Le taux de réussite à l’examen demeure faible : environ 71 % de 2012 à 2015 (MEES, 2015). Comment expliquer cette situation ? Ce texte présentera les résultats d’une analyse de 194 copies d’épreuves uniques d’histoire de juin 2014. Cette analyse suggère que la principale faiblesse des élèves se situe au niveau de leur habileté à interpréter les sources du dossier documentaire, particulièrement les sources iconographiques. Cette difficulté serait accentuée si le titre ou la légende associés à l’image ne partagent pas le même vocabulaire que celui employé dans la question.
