The growing concern about the quantity and quality of water has led managers and researchers from various countries to concentrate efforts in the study, planning and management of watersheds, considered appropriate units for the rational and sustainable management of water resources. This experience report presents results of the Program for Communication, Environmental Education and Social Mobilization, which is part of the project "Monitoring Network of the basins of the rivers Pirapó, Paranapanema III and Paranapanema IV -analysis and monitoring of the hydrological behavior", developed by a multidisciplinary team of researchers and graduate students of the State University of Maringá (Paraná, Brazil). The goals of the program were: a) To develop continuing education for teachers of basic education, active in state schools located in the basins studied; b) To raise awareness and to promote training of various local social actors; c) To produce educational and promotional materials for teachers and general community, respectively. The methodology was the action research, on the basis of collaborative work between university researchers and participants of the program. The results evidence that teachers and representatives of different social groups had a limited view of issues related to water resources of their region. Courses, workshops and itinerant exhibitions, beyond teaching aids and promotional material prepared by the group of researchers and graduate students contributed to broaden the view of social actors about watersheds to which they are part, from the perspective of an active, critical and responsible participation focused on sustainable use and management of water resources. Keywords: watershed, environmental education, water resources, sustainability. The study aimed to address the importance of healthy eating with children in the early grades of a public school in the city of Dois Vizinhos-PR. The activity was initially carried out with the application of a questionnaire seeking to analyze the students' prior knowledge and, afterwards, a lecture on food, exposing with the aid of the food pyramid the variety and quantity that should be ingested for each type of food. Soon after, educational videos were shown, and recreational activities were applied in order to promote the perception of the importance of consuming nutritious foods for a good quality of life. Through the results it was found that in general students understand the concept of healthy eating satisfactorily, however a portion of students does not reflect this perception in practice, with low fruit intake and high consumption of sweets. It is important to guide children to the practice of healthy eating, and playful activities can be a good instrument for addressing the topic with elementary school students.
Environmental Education in non-formal educational spaces emerges as a tool capable of making people aware of the importance of conserving natural resources. The present study aimed to evaluate the potential of a holiday camp as a tool to promote non-formal environmental education. For 5 days, a total of 19 children between 9 and 12 years old, participated in various activities held in a zoo, located in the city of Dois Vizinhos, Paraná. The research had a qualitative and descriptive character and the field diary and participant observation were used for data collection. The results indicate that the children were made aware of the importance of all animals to the ecosystem and at various times presented critical thinking about the problems caused by man to the environment. It is hoped that the activities developed can collaborate in the process of formation for change, in which people can change their relationship with the environment, not only in their daily attitudes, but as future citizens of rights who demand economic and social transformations for the conservation of natural resources.
