Banyuwangi is a town part of Java island, Indonesia. Cultural of Banyuwangi still run by original society named Using tribe. One of the culture which still defended by Using tribe is custom house. The paper describe about house of Using Banyuwangi and instructional design that made from the result of explore activity. This research joining ethnography method and development research. While the data collecting done with observation method, interview, and documentation. As for study device developed with ADDIE model that limited at development step. The result showed that house of Using’s construction show the existence of mathematics concepts specially geometry two dimension, pythagoras, and similarity. This result used to developed the instructional design based on contextual teaching – learning. Selected items is pythagoras. The instructional design will be implementing at research hereinafter.

This study aimed to describe the creative thinking process of students with active learning styles in proposing and solving problems on geometry material. The research instruments were Honey and Mumford's Learning Style Questionnaire (LSQ), problem-solving and submission test sheets, and interview guidelines. The LSQ questionnaire was distributed to students majoring in mathematics education at a university in Malang, Indonesia, with a total of 200 students. Students who have an active learning style and meet the specified criteria will be selected as research subjects. Based on research on creative thinking processes in proposing and solving problems in students with active learning styles, it was found that there were differences in behaviour between subject 1 and subject 2 at each stage of creative thinking. However, based on the researcher's observations of the behaviour of the two subjects at each stage of their thinking, there are similarities in behaviour, namely, they tend to be in a hurry to do something, prefer trial and error, and get ideas based on daily experience.

Problem solving is the ability which can be used not only to solve a simple problem but also a complicated problem. It is a skill which can be trained in every level of education. Therefore, teachers are required to be able to trill this ability and an obligation for mathematics teacher to have an excellent problem solving skills. This research aimed to explore the ability of postgraduate students to solve mathematics problems. Mathematics postgraduate student at Universitas Negeri Surabaya had been chosen as a subject. The instrument was developed based on Polya (1973). Firstly, we did literature reviews in order to explore what kind of problem solving test which could be used to mapping student ability. Moreover, we constructed a student's worksheet with high order thinking problem. It had been analysed to find out the student's ability. The result showed that students' ability in solving mathematics problem is bad. Almost 100% subjects understand about the problem, unfortunately only 50% of students are able to use the data. It is about 50% of students are able to connect their knowledge with the problem and only 60% subjects are able to make a plan and able to implement it.

Traditional houses are part of the culture of every country. Indonesia is a country that has a variety of traditional houses. The traditional Banyuwangi house is known as the Using house. This house can be explored in terms of ethnomathematics and used as part of learning mathematics. This research is focused on knowing and describing mathematics learning that integrates the ethnomathematics of Using house, thematic, and connected models. The research was also conducted to determine the effectiveness of the learning that has been carried out. The results showed that the use of the Using house in ethnomathematical-thematic-connected-based mathematics learning: (1) could be done using the trivium concept (literacy, matheracy, and technoracy); (2) can be done thematically by integrating four subjects (Indonesian, social sciences, fine arts, and mathematics); (3) can be connected by integrating two mathematical concepts (two-dimensional geometry and arithmetic); (4) through seven phases of learning; and (5) effective because 80% of students can solve problems as expected.

House of Using Banyuwangi is one of the cultural components of the Using tribe in Banyuwangi-Indonesia which contains a lot of mathematical concepts. The existence of mathematical concepts in culture, commonly known as ethnomathematics, can be the basis for the development of mathematics teaching materials for elementary school. In addition to the application of cultural components in the form of Using traditional houses, the use of Using language as a language of learning can also be a bridge for students to be able to more easily understand mathematical concepts that are still abstract.
