RESUMO Objetivo: estudar os dados epidemiológicos de pacientes vítimas de traumas bucomaxilofaciais atendidos em um hospital de referência da Paraíba. Métodos: estudo transversal de abordagem indutiva com procedimento estatístico comparativo e técnica de pesquisa por documentação direta em campo. O universo foi constituído dos prontuários hospitalares obtidos de janeiro de 2016 a dezembro de 2017 de pacientes atendidos pelo Serviço de Cirurgia e Traumatologia Bucomaxilofacial desse hospital. A amostra foi composta por 332 pacientes de acordo com os critérios de elegibilidade do estudo. A coleta de dados foi realizada por dois examinadores previamente calibrados e os dados foram analisados descritiva e inferencialmente. Resultados: os pacientes do sexo masculino foram mais acometidos por trauma facial (83,1%), principalmente na terceira década de vida (32,2%). Acidentes motociclísticos foram a etiologia mais comum de trauma para ambos os sexos. Em relação à estatística inferencial com margem de erro fixada em 5%, não foi observada associação significativa (p>0,05) entre os sexos e os fatores etiológicos do trauma. Os ossos do nariz (38,2%) foram os ossos mais afetados e a lesão mais frequente de partes moles foi o edema, em 50,9% dos casos. Apenas 20,8% dos pacientes com fraturas ósseas foram politraumatizados. Conclusão: as vítimas de traumatismo bucomaxilofacial atendidas em nosso hospital são predominantemente homens na terceira década de vida, envolvidos em acidentes motociclísticos e com lesões em ossos do nariz.
O presente estudo tem por objetivo realizar uma revisão de literatura do tipo narrativa sobre a atuação e as atribuições do cirurgião dentista no ambiente hospitalar. Trata-se de uma revisão narrativa de literatura, sendo analisados trabalhos publicados no SCIELO (Scientific Eletronic Library Online) e LILACS (Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde) com as palavras chaves "Hospital, Odontologia, Unidade de Terapia Intensiva”. A inserção do cirurgião dentista na equipe multidisciplinar dos hospitais contribui para o tratamento dos pacientes hospitalizados, visto a existência da relação entre saúde oral e geral, assim as atribuições desses profissionais principalmente em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva corroboram para a manutenção da saúde bucal possibilitando qualidade de vida a partir de uma visão integral da saúde. Portanto, é de extrema importância a habilitação em odontologia hospitalar na formação do profissional cirurgião dentista.
Os tratamentos estéticos na odontologia estão sendo bastante procurados na atualidade, entre eles o clareamento dental se destaca. Desta forma, o objetivo do presente estudo foi relatar um caso clínico de clareamento dental em consultório e discutir os aspectos relacionados à alteração de cor, bem como à sensibilidade causada pelo agente. Paciente do sexo masculino, 26 anos, leucoderma procurou atendimento odontológico da Universidade Federal de Campina Grande (UFCG) queixando-se da cor amarelada dos seus dentes. Sistemicamente saudável e com boa condição de saúde bucal, após exame intra-oral foi indicado clareamento dental em consultório com Whiteness HP 35%. O tratamento proposto foi iniciado na sessão seguinte com profilaxia sob uso de pedra pomes, água e escova de robinson, com posterior aplicação de barreira gengival TopDam e aplicação do gel clareador na proporção 3:1 de peróxido de hidrogênio e espessante, respectivamente, sendo realizado uma nova aplicação a cada 15 minutos, totalizando 3 aplicações em cada sessão, uma sessão semanalmente. Repetindo-se o protocolo recomendado, na terceira sessão foi realizada uma quarta aplicação do gel clareador topicamente nos quatro caninos, uma vez que estes se encontravam mais amarelados. Assim, a mudança de cor ocorreu da escala A3 para A1. O paciente foi submetido a responder dois questionários, o teste de sensibilidade pela escala de Wong e Baker, e o de satisfação do indivíduo em relação à estética do próprio sorriso. Ao término do tratamento, o grau de desconforto de sensibilidade após as sessões foi caracterizando como um desconforto que dói muito, mas perdurando apenas nas primeiras 24h, e alto nível de satisfação depois do tratamento. Portanto, o clareamento dentário é um procedimento simples, minimamente invasivo e com excelentes resultados estéticos.
IntroduçãoDesde a descoberta dos raios X por Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, em novembro de 1895, várias pesquisas enaltecem a importância dessa radiação para a humanidade, bem como suas ações deleté-rias devido à ação ionizante 1 . A comunidade científi-ca, após observar a existência de tais danos, passou a estudar a proteção radiológica, regulamentando e limitando o uso das radiações em condições aceitáveis com a finalidade de proteger os indivíduos 2 . A prevenção em qualquer procedimento envolvendo a radiação ionizante torna-se fundamental visto que ela não é percebida pelos sentidos humanos e qualquer que seja o nível de exposição pode provocar algum tipo de dano biológico ao paciente 3 . Os efeitos da radiação dependem da quantidade e da qualidade da radiação incidente e, também, da natureza do material com a qual está interagindo 4 . Muitos países têm leis elaboradas para o controle da prática odontológica em relação aos raios X. No Brasil, apenas em 1998, a Portaria nº 453 do Ministério da Saúde estabeleceu um conjunto de diretrizes para que os serviços de radiologia trabalhassem com segurança e qualidade 5 .
