El presente trabajo describe y analiza el budismoSoka en Argentina para reponer de qué modo y mediante qué mecanismos institucionales se (re)producen allí estereotipos de género. La investigación comprendió tres años de observación participante (2018-2020) en múltiples focos etnográficos en el área metropolitana de Buenos Aires, análisis hermenéutico documental y una serie de entrevistas en profundidad a miembros (n=25). El artículo contribuye a informar con datos institucionales/organizacionales los debates sobre nuevas espiritualidades y poner en primer plano los mecanismos de (re)producción material y simbólica de diferencias y desigualdades entre varones y mujeres practicantes de este budismo.
El presente trabajo explora los modos en que las/os practicantes del budismo Soka del Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires conciben y evalúan el género y la (re)producción de sus estereotipos al interior de la práctica espiritual. Entre 2018 y 2020 se realizaron múltiples entrevistas y observación participante en diversos focos etnográficos, donde encontramos que la organización y dinámicas de la Soka se critican según cómo se evalúen los efectos paradójicos de la igualdad y la diferencia (re)producidos por la institución; existe una tensión entre la afirmación de la igualdad —favorable a la autonomía de las mujeres— y las categorías tradicionales usadas para alcanzarla; se critican las diferencias que reafirman estereotipos de género, pero se valora la contención brindada en espacios exclusivamente femeninos para el abordaje de problemáticas específicas; las diferentes perspectivas que cohabitan entre practicantes sobre los debates de género constituyen otra manifestación del pluralismo dentro de la práctica.
